This happened here a few years ago, when the state and local city/county (KCK unified Govt) condemed a huge amount of land to build the Kansas Speedway. Nothing came of the farmowner's lawsuits, the Speedway got built and did exactly what the proponents said it would, attracted huge amounts of developement, jobs and wealth to an otherwise fairly depressed area. So, it worked, but it was still wrong, IMHO.............

I just saw this on the news a few minutes ago and I'm extremely disappointed with the decision. Seizing property for road widening projects and the like is one thing, but seizing for a development park is a whole other ball game. I'm really getting tired of big business getting all kinds of breaks and handouts yet a small business owner like myself gets virtually nothing /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Stand back,
the stampede of untrustworthy rich developers are heading for your local officals, to grease their palms, to get their hands on any property they desire.

The way to beat this is to VOTE the SCUM out. Make notes of who voted and how, and when time comes, vote against them.

As for my home, FMV, 110,000......they can have it. Or if they take it, they can have the mortgage, since I wont be paying it any longer.........and the bank can fight city hall over it.

I totally agree this stinks to high bucks for those that voted for it, and the developers that paid for the vote........NO REASONABLE person would believe these people voted this way cause they thought it was good, and no reasonable person would vote this in. They were paid, period.

Sorry for the civics lesson, Danny, but you cannot vote Supreme Court Justices out. They are appointed for life. The theory from our founders is that honorable persons -- those who would be trusted by the honorable administration -- would be above influence and could concentrate on the business of interpreting our laws if they did not have to face election. Now, unfortunately, the "honorable" part of that theory seems to have gone South. It is amazing how politically split this decision is. The older, more liberal court wrote a stinging dissent, but the conservative younger members danced to the tune of their masters.

If this message disappears, I will understand. But, sorry, that is the way it is. It may be a political comment, but it is hard to contradict.

If you read the opinion, it appears to me that the most conservative judges are the ones that dissented. Judges O'Conner, Scalia, Thomas, and Rehnquist all dissented in the 5-4 vote. Unless I haven't been paying attention, these are the MOST conservative judges.

You have to thank about 60% of the politicians within the boundaries of the Washington Beltway for this. Personally, whenever the Congress and the office of the President are controlled by one party, they do as they please without regard for what is right or moral. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter which party is in control, because they both operate with the same smug attitude. They squawk a lot, but make special deals in whispers...... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I just read a brief biography of each justice from their own web site and you are correct. Which makes me scratch my head. While those in dissent have been sitting longer (for the most part), the traditional lines of business versus personal rights seemed to have gone haywire (based on which president appointed them). I just don't get this decision. It is just so wrong.

However they stack up politically, its a wrong decision. I am a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, but Jerry Jones is about to force people out of their homes to line his own pockets in Arlington, Texas. There is no way this should happen. And there is no way a Spanish company should be able to force people off their Texas land for their commercial benefit.

One of these days any large business will be able to take over smaller businesses against their will, because of a perceived improvement in community employment. This is a slippery slope.

We are slowly becoming the land of the dictatorship not the free. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Dictatorship in my Funk & Wagnalls dictionary states, "Supreme Control".
