Ford 1210 4x4 5\' Box Blade?

Can a 1210 (16 hp gear drive) handle a 5' box blade? I'm in the market for a box blade. I run 4' implements with it now, but I would love to get a 5' box blade for my driveway if it can handle it. I would hate to buy a 5' and have to take it back.

Thanks.

Re: Ford 1210 4x4 5\' Box Blade?

My first tractor was a Ford 1210. Mine had a loader, belly mower and a 4' landscape rake. What a great machine!! I could drive all over the wet yard, and that machine would barely dent the soil, and that was with R1 tires. With that said, I wouldn't run a 5' box blade.

Now as these fine gentlemen will tell you, a lot of satisfaction in implement use, is how you use it. Light loads without the teeth all the way down may work. Pulling lots of material, or sinking the teeth all the way in will be trouble. Any moderate load in that 5' box blade will stop that tractor cold. It just doesn't have the weight. I used to have problems pulling the 4' rake with a heavy load on it. There are times my 66' box stops my TC33D with a full load.

Now for the disclaimer. My 1210 had 1500 hours on it, so it could have been a bit tired, but it was in excellent condition, with all scheduled maintenance documented.

I would go with the 4' box. I think you would be happier with the results.
