ford 1210 black smoke no power after fuel filter change

Good thinkn Mike.. I think it's a matter of> he was the last one who touched it.. so now its his problem.?? & it was bound to happen no matter who worked on it.??
Like I said earlier, most people don't want their filters changed unless theres a problem..

is everything still tight? Bleeder screw? Sounds like it has gotten air back into the system,, sorta! IS the filter correct for the machine? Did you check the air filter?

It is getting lots of fuel. Almost to much fuel Id say. That is why I am getting the black smoke.
I would be guessing that theres some kind of problem with the injectors so I decided to run them outside of the tractor to see if I can see if the injector is spraying properly and getting a nice spray.

All 3 sprayed the same and all 3 sprayed nicely nothing looking odd to me.

When I removed the injectors I noticed what looked to be oil in the pocket I removed the injectors from on 2/3 cylinders. Or it was diesel fuel that had just turned black like the exhaust sut I dont really know. But all injectors seemed to be working fine.

Now Im really stumped. I think I知 going to take the valve cover off tomorrow and check if I can see anything out of the ordinary under there and watch the valves move while I crank the motor with no injectors in it

Also was thinking about doing a compression test on the motor as well but don遞 know what they should read dose anyone know what this 1210 should read on a gauge when checking compression.

The tractor will start and idle but it smokes black and wont idle up at all. Very confusing.

Solid stream of fuel coming out at the blessed at the input of the pump. And then 3 of the same sized small fuel marbles come out of the injector pump when cranking with no lines on.

Re blead the system and still the same thing motor will start but just idle and still smokes at idle

First, I am not a mechanic and by far not a diesel mechanic... so I am just reading and thinking out loud !

I too think the Injectors are the problem.
The injector work off of the engine but how do they work when running... are they like a battery and the electrical system, and need a load to really know what they are doing and in turn ned to be tested under load ?

Not saying there is anything wrong with the valves, but if it was open then there would be no compression and in turn no combustion but to me you should check it out !

A compression check will be good just to get an idea of the overall condition of the rings/pistons.cylinders and possibly the valves.

You have the statement, "Solid stream of fuel coming out at the blessed at the input of the pump. And then 3 of the same sized small fuel marbles come out of the injector pump when cranking with no lines on":
- What does "Solid stream of fuel coming out at the blessed at the input of the pump" mean ?
- Also, maybe the injectors are not shutting down completely, leaking, and too much fuel is getting in the cylinders before they should actually be squirting fuel and then when the fuel is needed there is too much fuel... i.e. black smoke !
- Do you know if the Fuel Pressure is where it should be... not too high ?

My next steps would be to check the compression, I don't know the exact number, then take off the Valve Cover and check out what's underneath, and if all is good, have the injectors tested and rebuilt if necessary and get the fuel pressure numbers.

Not preaching, just throwing things out there !

If this info is repeating someone else comments please disregard, but I am thinking it will end up being a simple fit.

Dang, I HATE it when a story ends with no resolution...what eventually turned out to be the problem here?? Seems as if it must have been a simple fix or there would have been ongoing posts offering further possible solutions...

Wow, retro-bump. I agree that everyone should follow through with their problem.
