Ford 1320 hydrostatic damper

I just encountered a problem with my old ford 1320. I have a hydrostatic drive, and today I jumped on and have no return at all to the neutral position on the forward/reverse pedal. I poked around, and spotted this little shock absorber thing, and pulled it off. Is this what is supposed to return it to the neutral position? I want to make sure before I order one, they are $144.61! The first pic is the damper, the second is trying to show where it hooks up to the pedal linkage.

Never mind. After studying the parts diagrams, I decided that probably wasn't it. Tore off some sheet metal, and found a roll pin that backed out, knocked it back in, and all is well.
