I have a SD2200 and it appears the temperature guage is broke....actually I don't even think it is attached to the sending unit. I just bought this tractor last week and would like to put a gauge on it. Will one of the universal ones from Tractor Supply work or are the thread patterns not NPT? I read somewhere on here they were not. Thanks in advance.

You got to figure out what your problem is first, sending unit, wiring , gauge in that particular order. would need worry about NPT if your sending unit is bad.

JC,

JC,

The Sending unit does not have any wires attached to it at all actually and the gauge appears to be the original so I figured I would just buy a universal one that came with the sending unit and gauge and just replace the entire part as it is only $25 at TS.

For 50 cents, rewire what's there and be amazed if it works!

Agreed....but the tractor is 2 hours away at our farm and there are not any tractor stores close to it so ease of access is an issue.

I'd buy the gauge from HF, make sure not to lose the receipt, get all my tools including wires and a volt/ohm meter, electrical tape. the sending unit is a variable resistor that changes resistance due to heat. High temp reads low ohms and higher ohms equates to cold. The range of hot and cold is from 700 ohms to 70 ohms give or take some. Temp sending units rarely fail. you might be good to go after 10 minutes of labor and 20 cents worth of wire and electrical tape.

That's shade tree special:D I would not even buy the wire as I've got lots of odd and ends scrap pieces.:)

My understanding is the Japanese used NPT threads but do not tap as deep. IE the threads for the oil sending unit on my 1700 are 1/8 NPT. I verified that hooking up a oil pressure gauge.

agree, it is same as mine.
