I have a Ford 1520 and have owned it for years. Never an issue. Well taken care of. We only put around 50-100 hours a year on it. The battery finally died so I picked up a new one but the grounding cable wasn't quite long enough so I decided to move the strap until I could get a longer unit. Apparently the new location wasn't a good ground because as soon as I attached the cable I heard a small hiss and then looked up to see smoke being let out of something. The ignition does nothing. No lights, no clicks, no nothing. I pulled the starter and it works on the workbench. I know I fried something but any help in getting the right part would be hugely appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Well thanks to a friend who is smarter than I am I found I fried the fusible link and I did this by installing my new battery backwards. Rather embarrassing but back up and running. Hopefully there are those who learned from my mistake!

I am wondering why you didn't think something was wrong when "suddenly" the ground cable was too short?:confused3::D
