Ford 1600 muffler ?

My ford 1600 currently just has a straight pipe on it. I want to put on an actual muffler. When I search online I only come up with a muffler that does not have enough distance from the mounting plate to the bend to clear the hood. The ford 1700 mufflers have more than enough distance. Would these model fords accept the same mufflers without problems? This may be a silly questions but I will be ordering offline and I don't want to return it.

I have the same problem with finding a muffler with a lower pipe that connects to the flange and curves up and clears the hood. I am curious, what was your solution?

Buy a new muffler. Use the bottom pipe off old muffler on the new muffler. Do it all the time. I just buy one that looks sorta close at a farm supply. Send it through the adaptation committee to get ratified. Bolt it on.
