Ford 1700 battery replacement

I bought my ford 1700 last year. I'm starting to think the battery is undersized. Its the size of a car battery but the battery stand is way bigger. Seems when l use the glow plugs at first it weakens the battery were it doesn't crank very fast. Does anyone have an idea of what size battery l should buy? My service manual gives me a part number but of course it's not made anymore with no info. Any ideas?

I would think that any good battery store should be able to cross reference your part # with a currently produced battery. What is even better - from the part # - - get the Group #. Then you can buy a battery of the same size or get a bigger one that will fit in the battery stand.

The current New Holland part number for a replacement battery is F165DSW which is a BCI Group24 battery. They are available anywhere batteries are sold and come in a few different CCA ratings.

Get the largest battery that will fit in the battery holder, and has the the most cold cranking amps.
Best bang for the buck is the Everstart Maxx from Walmart.

I have also had really good luck with Wal-Mart battery and Exide
too.

totally agree the most CCA you can fit will do the trick, although the everstart might not have the greatest longevity they are cheap !
