Ford 1700, more power?

Max travel of gas push rod to the injector pump to raise the fuel flow/rpm can be adjusted. That does not mean you can create more HP beyond what the engine can put out. Original poster final travel adjustment may be under-adjusted a wee bit. I would not monkey with it too much and if I plan to touch it, then for sure I would put a witness mark, paint or something on it to know where it was originally.

So what exactly do I do with the rod? How to adjust?

The push rod is connected an arm that has angular motion from left to right. There are two screws that limits the movement of the cam (don't know what they exactly call it). study the motion by moving rod to the left and right and to see how the max travel is stopped. If you turn the right screw CCC you will have a bit more travel hence a bit more diesel fuel. I would not mess with it too much, I'd mark it first or try to remember how much you turned so you can bring it to where it is. in the pic below, next to gas linkage you see the screws I was talking about, the one on the right increases the travel in the direction of increasing fuel flow. Notice the jam or lock nut there to keep it from moving. Again look at mine that the position of it not only locked they used a wire and lead to make it tamper resistant. it is done at the factory, if your tamper proof still in place then I would not mess with it.

I only work it if the seal is already broken by previous owner.

JC,
I just purchased a 1700 2 cyl.
You keep mentioning changing the injector pump oil.
What are the steps involved and what do you recommend for the oil.
I have already followed your advice on oil change, and the filter
numbers worked out great.

Thanks for all your posts.

Mack,

Oil you'll be needing in the injector pump is the same as your engine /crankcase oil. I use the same Rotella or NH oil for diesel engine. On some tractors the oil between injector pump and engine is shared but not on Ford 1700. The procedure is extremely simple and should take you not more than 5 minutes to do it. I'd probably do it after running the engine for 5 minutes for the oil to get a bit less viscous. One time I used my portable air bottle and pushed a little bit of air from the top (fill point) and all the oil came out real quickly from the drain point. Look at the post #3 in the thread below and you have your answer.

I wonder if Macks's 1700 will be one of the ones without a drain plug on the injector pump, someone on here posted a picture of a pump without one. Hey Mack, how bout a few pics of the 1700, always nice to see other 1700's out there. TB
