All,

I have the above tractor and need the sway control parts to prevent my 3 point bars from swinging causing the implements to hit the tires. Messicks has the parts but are really expensive. Has anyone bought these elsewhere without breaking the bank? the part highlighted in Yellow is what I need.

Buy yourself 4 shackles and make a fixed one. I have never adjusted mine but once. You need to have access to a welder and be able to weld also. it should not be very difficult to make one.

I can weld and have a welder so that shouldn't be an issue.....Just need to find the turnbuckle and threaded parts, or rig something up I guess.

Maybe you don't need a turnbuckle. How about a 3/4' all thread and two nuts , one to adjust and one to jam. There certainly is more than one way to skin the cat. Finding some generic turnbuckle should not be too difficult.

JC,

Sounds good but having a hard time to visualize for some reason...I will have to play with parts at the hardware store I think.

It is a generic part, even though sold from a Yanmar parts source, so it will work fine on your Ford. Yanmar Tractor Parts: STAY CHAIN - LONG_. For $25 a pop, it will be hard to beat by much unless you already have some of the parts around, and if you swap implements much, the handiness is nigh unbeatable. They also make a shorter set for only $20: Yanmar Tractor Parts: SWAY CHAIN (STABILIZER CHAIN)

Those look good, but in JC's picture his are solid preventing the arms from moving towards the tires...these are loose aren't they? Meaning one arm could sway out, but I suppose as it sways out and pulls the impelment the other side would tighten preventing it from continuing towards the tire.

This is exactly how it works. I have just a short couple pieces of chain on a couple machines, and it performs as needed, but it is nice to have the adjustments and ability to tension the lift arms a little bit sometimes.

A bit of visualization aid. The all thread that I'm depiction below is 1/2" and not adequate , it is just the idea.
weld two nuts to plate like below. Weld another Plate on top and now you have a totally adjustable sway bar. Need to be inventive on tying the ends to the axle and diffy housing by welding a shackle or whatever you have available.

what I even like better is a piece of chain inside a a pipe (can adjust pipe length to what you need). This is a simpler design as you can marry up the chain easier to the two point on either side. This design would afford you both tension and compression.

PICS requested on the lift handle mechanism.

Thanks, that would work for sure. Your hitch lever is alot different than mine, I have a straight bar running parrallel to the ground from the control lever to the rear arm. The rod is a linkage rod that is about 6" long. I tried to find a picture of it on messicks but no luck.
