Ford 1715
Just bought a Ford 1715, the tractor runs good but has a good deal of blowby, I knew this when I bought, didn't give a lot for it, I was wondering if I could just drop the pan and push the pistons out, hone the cylinders and replace the rings, not a real mech. but love to tinker, any advice or info appreciated, the engine is not smoking except for black smoke when it is accelerated, it is fairly heavy, but I am getting oil dripping out of the vent tube

I would change the oil( if you haven't already) and put Rotella 15w40 in it. Then I would run the snot out of it for a while and see if it clears up.Also make sure the engine is getting up to operating temp. How many hrs are on it. As for your question about replaceing the rings. Yes you can. Price out all the gaskets and parts first. You may decide to just add oil to it when it needs it if it still has plenty of power.
