Hey all,

It is time for me to replace the clutch on my 1715 tractor. messicks.com has all the parts in stock. But I can not find the gauge for setting it. The manual refers to #FNH 1300 as the correct gauge. Where can I get one at?

I watched this video of a guy doing a replacement. He didn't use a gauge. But I would rather do it right the first time. Don't wanna split the tractor again.

Also, I found a complete kit from Yesterdays tractor for $102.... Ford 1700 Clutch Kit - SBA320450011K Anyone have any experience with their parts? Dont wanna split the tractor twice for cheap parts

Thanks for the help.

"Don't wanna split the tractor twice for cheap parts"

YOU ARE A LOT SMARTER that I was!
I bought cheap aftermarket parts, and did the job TWICE.

If you can buy ALL your parts from Messick's...buy ALL your parts from Messick's!
Messick's parts guys are GREAT!
They will tell you IF you need a gauge.
I think new clutches are generally shipped preset to specs.

I had to split my TC24D twice - once for a hydrostatic pump leak and then 2 years later for a clutch. I couldn't locate an alignment tool anywhere. I tried several different dealers and nothing. So finally went at it. I aligned the new clutch up with the marks on the pressure plate and bolted it down. Slid it all back together like butter. Been almost 3 years now without issue.

This isn't the alignment tool. It is the gauge to set the pressure plate fingers

Same here......no alignment tool...worked great!

Unless you have a fair bit of mechanical experience you have as good a chance of making things worse as better.

I have no problem fixing most anything. I just wanna do the best job that I can when I do it. I hate to shortcut things and then have to redo them. I will check with the closest Does/New Holland dealer to see if they have a gauge.

I've done the clutch on my 1715 twice. Second time because I did not use a OEM release bearing. Trying to remember where I got the pressure plate ... it was NOT OEM .... but I remember looking carefully at the OEM part and found an aftermarket part that appeared to be the exact same part, and on installation it did appear to be exactly the same as OEM .... bear in mind the 1715 had parts from all over ... I think both the aftermarket part and the OEM were both made in India. It came with an alignment tool, but no gauge. I checked the finger adjustment by eye, they all appeared to be the same so I just installed it .... has worked great. The lesson I learned was not to buy a discount release bearing, it lasted about two years.
