Ford 1715 clutch replacement

I've done the clutch on my 1715 twice. Second time because I did not use a OEM release bearing. Trying to remember where I got the pressure plate ... it was NOT OEM .... but I remember looking carefully at the OEM part and found an aftermarket part that appeared to be the exact same part, and on installation it did appear to be exactly the same as OEM .... bear in mind the 1715 had parts from all over ... I think both the aftermarket part and the OEM were both made in India. It came with an alignment tool, but no gauge. I checked the finger adjustment by eye, they all appeared to be the same so I just installed it .... has worked great. The lesson I learned was not to buy a discount release bearing, it lasted about two years.

I learned the same tractor split twice lesson!
Even though OEM parts are made overseas, I still will only buy OEM internal parts from OEM dealers.
Splitting a tractor twice, to replace cheaply made after market parts, is not my idea of fun!

Just checked .. I bought a kit from ebay that had very good reviews. I used the pressure plate and disk from the kit, but threw out the release bearing and pilot bearing and used OEM .... the pressure plate and disk appeared identical to OEM, the pilot bearing and release bearing were obvious no-name inferior products. One thing I did notice that was unusual was the OEM pilot bearing was only sealed on the outside, and the cheap aftermarket was sealed on both sides. So I put extra grease in the crank recess which should warm up with the engine and help keep the pilot bearing lubricated.

I'll consider aftermarket to save several hundred dollars assuming I can find parts that appear to be better quality than horrible chinese knockoffs ... but won't compromise on things like bearings that only cost a bit more to get OEM quality.

Kind of a formula ... the harder the part is to get to ... the more I'll spend on it to get quality :)

Hi!

I actually JUST did a ford 1700 clutch replacement with that same part. Worked great so far. clutch does not seem to have any issues.

Happy to answer any specific questions you may have. I did not check the gapping, and everything seems to be great so far.
