Ford 1715 rear wheel

Is there a source for aftermarket rear wheels for the 1715? OEM is about $1,000. It uses the 6 lug, wheel that fits a 11.2 x 24 tire ... although the rim itself might be a 10 x 24.

I have a feeling it might be rusted badly on the inside ... judging from the outside appearance.

Would be happy to use any wheel as long as it fits the 11.2 x 24 tires that I have, and bolts to the tractor.

Have you considered breaking your current wheels down, sandblasting them, and using several layers of fibreglass mat with resin on the inside?

Any large AG tire dealer can order a rim. A welding shop can remove existing center and place it in the new rim. Rim alone is $100-$150, bare, no paint

If you create an accurate template for the center, Unverferth will build complete wheel. You do not need clamps on rim, center is welded directly to rim.
If you load the tire, you will use tube inside new or existing tire.

Did you ever call weaver's to determine if they had a used wheel.? They also have a welding shop near them that builds entire wheel w/ center, NEW

I bought 1620 wheels from them last year, very satisfied.

I can recommend welding shop & wheel dealer if you are NOT far from me. Send me PM indicating your location if that would be helpful?

Having the tire removed, sand blasting and repainting is my first go to. Trying to get my ducks in a row in case the rim isn't salvageable. Welding/Fabrication is what I do as a side business ... so buying a rim and welding it to my center is also a possibility, does look like it might be a bit sketchy separating the center from the rim though ... or at the very least a pain. I don't have the capability to fabricate the center section with the bends ... well, I could, but it wouldn't be cost effective. Tires are loaded now and it has a backhoe, which pretty much never comes off, so I'm guessing I don't need loaded tires if I leave the BH on.
Haven't called Weavers yet, lining up this project for sometime this summer as the machine is in use at the moment.

I'll crawl under and take a look at the welds and see if I think I could separate them clean enough. So I can order a bare rim with no provisions for loops?

I'm about 20 minutes west of Saratoga NY, in the Galway NY area.

Dataway,

I would not be concerned w/ removing the existing center if the rim is junk. Then the new center can be welded into the new rim. Must be careful welding to new rim, but the existing center is welded, right? Lower the heat, exercise care. Even if you add a tube at the new rim, no requirement to load the tire.

Ther must be AG tire dealers near you but I bought a replacement rim from NOLT Tire in Waterloo NY but that is a drive for you.

(Half hr west of Syracuse) Weaver may be the option w/ least aggravation.

I would not have just one tire loaded. Both or nothing. The loops would provide something to weld against but the loops would need to be in alignment w/ the desired mounting offset position.

So no loops!! Cutting old center loose, very fine tip on your torch, plasma, small grinder w/ thin blade, sawsall, whatever your patience allows. Not trying to salvage old rim.

Good Luck.

Yep, now that you mention it, if I'm not saving the old rim I can use the plasma torch and just cut it out and then grind the remnants of the rim off the center. Technically I guess I could cut the loop mounts off a new rim too if needed. I'll check the NH dealer where I bought the tractor and see if they have any options for an aftermarket rim/hoop. Not against driving out Syracuse way if I have to. Probably should get a new tire while I'm at it, the current tire has been plugged a few times and if it sits long enough with one of the plugs up top it dries out and leaks.
