Howdy,
I have a ford 1900 that I loaned to a buddy, I use the term loosely, In short it over heated and now has substantial blow by coming out of the valve cover breather /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

Any suggestions as to where to start looking for the cause???

Cracked / warped head? Cracked block?? Blown head gasket??

Any help would be appreciated
Ray

Blowby usually is created by the compression gasses that leak past the cylinder rings from the combustion side to the crankcase side as the engine is running. I'm afraid that the overheating may have weakened your rings and possibly scored the cylinders. Unfortunately the consequences of overheating an engine can be pretty destructive.

K, I guess I need to bite the bullet and pop the head off and take a look see. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Severe overheating causes the rings to lose their temper. They are no longer stiff and springy. They turn into "mush".
This could be the cause of your blowby. Find someone with a compression gauge for a diesel and check the compression.
