Hello all. I'm new to the group and am looking for some advise on what to do with my 1920. It has the factory loader and 758b sub frame backhoe with 1682 hours on it. I bought it about 3 years ago and have found multiple issues since.
First off, I might a frozen PTO disc. It has the 12x12 non hydraulic shuttle, and the PTO shaft keeps spinning with the clutch depressed. The transmission doesn't slip and seems to operates normally.
Second is where the backhoe's subframe and where the lower arms of the 3 point hitch mount to rear axle housing. The 2 bolts holding the main pin to the rear axle wheel shaft case sheared off and in the process broke out the bottom of the housing because the back of the pin is doweled into the housing about a quarter of an inch. Now all that holds the pin that hangs the backhoe's subframe and backhoe itself or the lower 3 point hitch arm on that side of the machine are 2 m12x30 bolts. It had happened the previous owner, but I didn't see it until it happened to me.
The third problem is with the boom and dipper cylinders on the backhoe. When the cylinders were fully extended, the rods bent on me. There was compression pressure on the cylinders, and rather then the rods just retract into their barrels slightly, they just popped and bent. I would have figured some relief would have kicked in and allowed the cylinders to bypass before the rods bent like that.
My question to you all is this...should I walk away from this machine or stick with it and repair it for the long haul? From what I gather the 1920 was one of ford's best tractors. I think my machine was used hard, but not necessarily abused. I thought it was in average shape when I bought it, but now I'm woundering.
I missed out on buying 2 different used kubota b20 TLB's. I like the solid industrial strength build of these units. What is everybodies opinion of a trade of the 1920 for a b20 or b21? I've also talked to a mahindra dealer on trade in possibilities. What does everybody think of mahindra? I'm very unfamiliar with them. Just seems like I'm at a fork in the road with this 1920. Thanks for any and all advise!
