Ford 8N & Ford 1920
Hi All, I just acquired a new to me model year 1990 Ford 1920 4wd tractor with almost 4,800 hours on it. It does start right up and runs great. So I would like a recommendation on engine oil. I plan on changing fluids and filters because I do not know how the equipment was maintained. My filter preference has always been toward Wix. So should I go with 5w40 diesel or 15w/40 diesel? I live in central California, so snow is not a concern. It is an occasional use tractor. It will be used for weed control on 2 acres of flat land either dragging behind it a 5 gang mower or a flail mower. Thanks.

If hard starting is not an issue I'd go with 15W-40. I live in southeastern WA and that's what I use all year.
Thanks. Yes, it turns over easy and fires right right up.

Perfect, I just picked up 15w-40 diesel this week end at Napa and it just happened to be on sale.
