I bought a 1967 Ford 2000 the other day and the seller had a few of the sheet metal parts in a box. I put the steering column cover back on but I was left with this mystery piece. I've checked the on-line parts manual at Messicks, my operator's manual, the service manual, and looked at a bunch of images on line but can't seem to find a place for it. If it wasn't the same Ford blue I would assume that it was off something else but before I toss it I thought I'd check here. Also, it has the stamped raised "pattern" that matches the other pieces. But no part number on it. I took pictures before I cleaned it up and after. You can see the "clean" spot where it bolts up on the dirty picture.

I want to suggest that it goes under the radiator as a deflector. Is your tractor gas or diesel? If gas, I was thinking it bolts to the fuel tank rib on the two bolt holes, but not sure what for.

It is a diesel. I'll take a look at the area under the radiator but it seems too small and the curved attaching arm doesn't really make sense for that location. It might be something up front, though, to cover the regulator and maybe there's some attachment to the gas tank area, I can check that.

I thought it might be a shield for the starter or injector pump because it has a curved area that seems to be designed to fit around a cylinder, but I couldn't find where it would attach and I've not seen it on any of the many pictures on the net.

Still a mystery.

Might it be the diesel equivalent of this? Apologies for it being improperly rotated. Picture is from my SIL's gas 2000.
