I recently bought this 69 ford 2000 3 cylinder gas tractor with an 8 speed transmission with live PTO. When I went to look at it, the PTO and clutch worked fine. When I got it home I couldn't get the PTO to engage unless I shut the tractor off and started it with PTO engaged. Then the clutch stopped working. I split it yesterday and found a pin had come out of one of the release levers. It seems that the cotter pin that holds the pin in the release lever sheared off and the pin fell out. Would that pin have been my problem all along? I have not pulled the clutch assembly out. From the outside it looks to be fairly new. Yellow paint is still very visable on the springs. not a lot of dust, no oil on it. The input shaft has a little play in it as well. Is this normal? Please give me some suggestions. If have no idea how to actually set up a new clutch so pulling it is very intimidating.

i'd at least check it before repalcing the clutch.. you might be done.

you might feel a bit of bearing play in the input shaft.. but should not be mutch. shouldn't be anyting you can measure with a fine ruler. etc.

I can move the input shaft at least 1/4 inch in any direction.
