I see, reading the earlier comments in the thread gave me the impression that generator and dynamo have different meanings to you.

If I hear someone say dynamo on my ford dexta.. I know they are talking about a genny.

If I hear them say dynamo on my small asian tractor or yard machine.. I think permanent magnet style generator with no field current control.

permanent magnet vs feedback variable feild control.

minor application and operational differences.

Some of those cheap dynamo systems make ac, have no comutator and rely on a regulator rectifier pack aft of the dynamo..

Thanks, it is good to know how the words are used. I ask because when you read a text in English you cannot always be sure where the author comes from. Dynamo, magneto or generator, often you need a context to get it right.

just have to look for contextual clues, if any are present. I expect small machines ( lawnmowers ).. etc.. are / were more likely to use cheaper permanent field charge systems..
