Ford 2000 won't turn over

I went out to use my tractor this morning and it wouldn't turn over. It cranked and ran fine a couple of days ago when I used it. I checked the battery and it appeared to be okay, but I put my charger on it anyway. I've tried starting it at the solenoid, checked cable connections at all points, and everything else I know to check and try. It won't even click when I try to start it. Any ideas? It's a 3 clinder gasoline, about a 1972 model.

Are you saying you tried jumping over the solenoid? If not, give that a shot. If that doesn’t work, a multi-meter should find the problem area pretty fast. If you can’t get it to crank by jumping from the battery to the starter, one of those two is the culprit.

Sounds like a dead battery. Or a faulty ignition switch. Got mice? They chew the snickers out of wires. Hate the little buggers...

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I just got through messing with it again, and found the problem. I had to put the hi/low range shifter in neutral position. Then it started. I've not had to do that in the past, so I'm guessing there's a safety switch in there or something that must have been stuck before, and is working now. Anyway, I've got it going again, and thanks again for your help!

yes there is a neutral safety switch inside the trans on the high and low lever
