Hi All,

Our recently purchased Ford 3000 seems to have it's Draft/position control lever stuck in the vertical (position) setting. The previous owner had used the tractor for haymaking with no issues 2 seasons prior, it was then restored and repainted (looks lovely) and parked in the barn.

Hydraulics are inoperable unless the draft/position control lever is held slightly forward (from the stuck vertical) by hand, it only moves a few degrees from vertical then seems to hit a stop, if it's not held it will return to vertical.

I can raise the lift arms by holding the draft/position lever the few degrees forward it will move, the arms raise, but only remain raised if (at the same time) I pull out the auxiliary services control valve selector knob to disengage the 3PL hydraulics so I can release the draft/position control lever with lift arms up.

Using this procedure will raise the lift arms regardless of where the raise/lower quadrant is set, if the quadrant lever is set to max raise when I release the draft/position lever (without disengaging via the aux services selector) the arms lower slowly (6 to 8 seconds) if the quadrant lever is set to max lower when I release the draft/position lever the arms lower quickly (2 seconds).

Since the tractor was used without issue, I'm presuming the control valve and or unloading valve is sticking, is it worth using brute force and ignorance (big lever) on the draft/position lever to try to force it into the horizontal (draft) position or could this break something?

Or should I get a lift cover gasket/O ring set and overhaul the lift cover/cylinder assembly? If so is it worth me doing anything else whilst the cover is off, filters etc. ?

Any help or advice most welcome :)

top cover kit should not be over 20$.. and yeah.. I'd look for a stuck unloader.. and maybee needing adjustment and cam pin replacement too.

Cheers Soundguy, is the adjustment easy without the "special tools" noted in the workshop manual?

Think we'll do the filters while we're in there.

Many thanks,

use the alternate method for adjustment since you don't have the nuday tools. all the tool are are calibrated measuring devices anyway.

the alt method just makes you use a measuring device.. etc..
