Thanks Soundguy. it was pretty informative. on Japanese models the pto final shaft seal can be replaced from the outside but beyond that split and lift cover removal is necessary.

yikes.. a split for a simple pto shaft....

on the oldies i supose if you fidigited with it you could eplace the seal from the outside.. but it'd be lotsa work
