Ford 3000 pwr steering question

Hi everyone I've got a 76 fd 3000 diesel that I've had for about 15 years the bad thing is it doesn't have pwr steering and the older I get the harder it is the steer. At one time I looked at buying a factory pwr steering kit but the company is no longer and the price was up there 1500.00. My question is has anybody used one of the aftermarket pwr steering or pwr assist units and how good are they. The other thing about the aftermarket units is the look and I'd like to keep it as close to factory as possible.

The only way to keep it original is to go to a salvage yard and get the components there. They changed models in 1975 from a 3000 to 3600 so you might have a 3600 if it is a 76. The steering is the same though. My neighbor has a 3600 with the aftermarket power steering on it and it works well. So it's up to you how to go about getting power steering on it.
