Ford 3600 Tachometer Cable

I've purchased several TISCO D3NN17365C cables and installed them with the same results: twisted apart within first few seconds of operation.
My opinion is this cable is too long at 48" and binds causing failure at the lower end. It is much longer than the OEM cable.
Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening?
All the cables I see on the web appear to be this same cable although their part numbers are slightly different.

I think the 3600 also has a short cable that makes the turn down into the engine block. Have you pulled it out and checked it? It's been a while since I changed one, but it's only like 6 or 8 inches long.
