The vacuum advance on my Ford 3600 has been broken off since I've owned this tractor about ten years ago. (Over that time, I've though about repairing it, but didn't see the need.) The engine is actually from a 4600, but that shouldn't matter too much for purposes of my question.
The attached...
I recently replaced a few seals in the pump. I replaced the:

= gasket on fuel inlet
- main seal(with spring facing inside)
- o rings on the throttle and stopper shafts
- strainer and fiber washer where the return line comes in
- control cover gasket
- all the washers

I have to change the fuel shut off cable on a Ford 3600. Any suggestions on how to reach the lock nut on the underside of the instrument panel?
I can't figure out how to get a wrench on it even if I remove the cowling , and i'm thinking that trying to cutting it off with my fordom handpiece may...
1979 ford 3600, recently purchased and have noticed the rear lift is either all the way up or all the way down when the lever is engaged. Has both levers for draft control and lift control. With implement on the ground, lift does not engage until the lever is almost to the 2,3 position and when...
I have a Ford 3600 diesel that I have owned for 7 years. A little more info is, it has the Hydraulic filter on the top of the hydraulic pump. It has the auxiliary hydraulic lines under the seat, as well as the draft control lever beside the lift lever. I changed the Hydraulic fluid about a year...
I’m almost embarrassed to post this, but I can’t figure out how to remove the air filter on this thing.
I’ve tried pulling it and turning it, but it won’t budge. I figure it’s got to be easier than I’m making it, so before I break something, what’s the trick I’m missing?
I want to replace the heater in the intake manifold that helps in cold starts.I have looked, but cannot find that piece anywhere.I have ordered a new one and it has an electrical connection(obviously) and it is threaded on one end.Does anybody have a pic or an exact location for this piece.I have...
Took the tractor out this morning, noticed a significant coolant stream leaking from the right side under the starter. It was in the garage with antifreeze in the coolant. I suspect a corroded or displaced engine casting plug or a crack in the block. It is not the top one.(too easy) Did not see...
Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to tractor ownership and look forward to learning and contributing to these wonderful forums.
I recently purchased a Ford 3600 and think I may have been taken advantage of by a dishonest private seller, who claimed that the tractor was in perfect mechanical condition...
]I have a problem with my 3 point lift arms. They are in the up position and stuck there. When I start the tractor, the pump gets extremely hot, so I am sure it's because of extreme pressure. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go? It's been sitting that way for several months, and I have...
Hello new to the forum I did a search but did not see an answer. I'm trouble shooting a no start issue on a Ford 3600, I can jump the solenoid over and turn the tractor over. I have found that the fusible link that comes out of the wire loom by the solenoid is not connected to anything it must...
I have a 3600 and just finished a motor oil change. I used Rotella. I am also going to drain the rear end fluid and the middle which i believe to be the transmission. I was wondering if the rear end and transmission call for the same fluid? I bought 7 gallons of traveler universal...

Ok I’ve had a car with a blown head gasket before but this is use has me scratching my head some.
A while ago I had issue with what I thought was blow by but now I’m thinking maybe that issue may be related to this new one. I am losing coolant first of all. I have filled it and checked after...
As I fix one thing another breaks. Lol. I laugh only because I want to cry. Ha!
So got valve cover gasket replaced. Went and started the old ford and no more top end leaks. Great! Well then fluid starts pouring out the front end. Ugh now what? Take trill cover off and first there is a nest on...
I have the IT manual and owner's manual but i cannot find where there is an exploded view of the rear remote hook ups.
Do they make a rebuild kit for them as all i have been able to find are new ones which i do not need. Mine are leaking some when i have the hydraulics attached. Suspect o...
Ok This is a new to me tractor and it has done well other than some quirks that i have fixed, am fixing or will fix. However i have a large issue and want to know what (if anything) i can do to remediate for now until we have the tie to rebuild the engine.
Running normally and with normal...
So i have a new to me Ford 3600. It "had" a stabilization bar on the PTO links,i think. Looking at images online that is what it looked like. I want to go one step up and add better stabilization bars to it. I'm new to tractors and wondered what is recommended?
Hello all. Just picked up our first tractor . An 81 (i think have not grabbed the SN yet) ford 3600. Solid running but needs a bit of work that i will get to over time. You know the standard replace parts that have never been changed since purchased new like tie rod ends and all that fun stuff...
I have a green wire coming off each one of my idiot lights. Well there are 2 wires coming off each one but a single green off each one as well. And one has green/blk wire. Where do the green wires go to? And where does the green/blk wire go? This is a wiring nightmare! I will attach a picture if...
So I replaced the water pump and thermostat on my diesel 3600. Other than a few skint knuckles no biggie. However I cranked it up today and ran it for about 15 minutes and never saw the radiator moving water. Air temp was in the low 40’s. How long should it take for the thermostat to open up...

So I've got a Ford 3600 that needs a new clutch.

Working on replacing the seals and felt pads on the brake pedal rod. I've got the pedals off and am finding it's a keyed rod so I can't proceed further. Looking at the parts diagram it appears the key is not part of the rod but it's own piece. So in theory I should be able to pull it out?
I have a 1979-1980 Ford 3600 Diesel with a Dunham Lehr / Farmhand 22 Loader.
The loader worked without any problems what-so-ever when parking it back in November for the Winter months. Now that it's March & had a 55 degree day, I wanted to start up the tractor and get some routine maintenance...
Good afternoon. I'm wanting to get a hydraulic top link from Agrisupply for my 79 Ford 3600. Supposedly the remotes are factory. When calling dealers in my area, I get two answers to what size the male fittings for the hose are: 3/4 and 5/8. I found OEM part number D5NNB964A online. Is this the...
I work on a lot of mechanical stuff but don't really know anything about hydraulics. Can I add remotes to this tractor? There's various remote hydraulics kits for Fords for around $250-300, says they fit a ton of different models. With one of those am I good to go? Where does it mount onto the...
I am looking at these 2 machines. A 1967 Case 580CK and a 1977 Ford 3600. Both machines have a front loader and a rear 3 point hitch. And are the same price. They are in similar condition. Which way should I go?

Hi and thank you for your time.
This is for a diesel.
I tried searching and found some threads that touched on setting the timing but I haven't found anything that walks me through it from start to finish.
A few months ago I replaced the fuel pump and the tractor has been hard to start /...
I've purchased several TISCO D3NN17365C cables and installed them with the same results: twisted apart within first few seconds of operation.
My opinion is this cable is too long at 48" and binds causing failure at the lower end. It is much longer than the OEM cable.
Any suggestions on how...
Hey I have a question, I have a Ford 3600 with a bulldog 287 loader on it, I haven't had any problems with the loader at all, but does anybody know the rating on the 287 loader? I have picked up several round bales that weigh 1000-1300 lbs. But I got curious and wanted to know the rating on...
Just bought a Ford 3600 that has been sitting for some time.and wondering about the clutch.
It isn't completely stuck like most threads I see on stuck clutches. It will release if I start it in gear with the brakes held. I can push in on the clutch then release the brakes and the tractor will...
I am not very well versed in the Ford tractors so I am wondering about the 3600 model, this one has the diesel with the 8 speed transmission. It's a decent looking tractor from the picture, the guy says it doesn't smoke at all when he starts it, hour meter doesn't work so don't know that...
My upper radiator hose gets warm, my lower stays cold. I'm guessing thermostat stuck shut? It is winter in Michigan and I don't push it that hard in the winter, just moving manure from the barn. The temperature gauge never gets up too high, maybe 1/3rd of the way. My new block heater just died...
Your help is always appreciated!
Ive been running this old ford hard for almost two years now. Its done a perfect job until recently.
Now old blue wont shift out of gear. I haven't tried High (5,6,7,8) out of fear but I know for sure that when I put my clutch in, and shift into 1,2, or...
Acquired a 3600 this summer. Right away it was slow to start, needed about a full minute of cranking with white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I replaced the thermostart and it got better but not great. Maybe 10-15 seconds of cranking, I'm guessing it should have been better in than that in...
The Tach on my 1977 3600 just stopped working. I made sure the cable is not broken. The failure must be in the Proofmeter Driveshaft Adapter (PDA). Has anyone replaced one of these? Appreciate any advice you have. This tach worked fine but became erratic (bouncing) and suddenly stopped...
Hello I've mostly just been on here to read and learn but I haven't been able to figure out from just reading what I need to do to get my set up put together. I've read several posts on here and have worked on hydraulics before but am new to Ford tractors and just purchased a Ford 3600 and...
I found a ford 3600 Gas Tractor for sale locally. Are they good machines? Can I pull a NH 268 square baler with that model? Any info would be great thanks.
I just bought a hydraulic remote for my 3600. I am in the process of de-greasing, cleaning, and painting. I am including some photos and have questions about the install.
1. Some of the recessed ports have O-rings in them (see the attached photo). Do all the ports need O-rings?
2. I don't...
Appreciate some advice on problem with my Ford 3600 tractor. If engine is off and lift arms down and lift lever in raise position, when tractor is cranked, arms raise immediately no matter how big the load. If engine is running and lift lever is moved to raised position, arms respond slowly...
I have a 1977 3600 that is in need of re-wiring. I have the Ford Repair Manual. The schematic shows a voltage stabilizer in between the key switch and the fuel gauge. The manual says this is required to keep a steady 10V output for the fuel and temp gauges. My Instrument panel does not have...
I have a 1977 3600 with a "C" prefix serial number. Repair manual says I need a 3-position push/pull type light switch. The switch I'm able to find on the web is for the A and B prefix serial number tractors. Any ideas on a suitable part source. Trying to avoid the high-priced dealership...
I have a gas Ford 3600 which was my dad's. I had it running 2 years ago after I replaced the sed. bowl filter element (pricey) and replaced the original carburetor with one of those Zenith replacements. Last year I couldn't get it started. I am very motivated to get it running and keep it...

I think I'll need to buy tires for my Ford 3600 sometime this year. I think it has the original ones on it to be honest because they are pretty weather cracked but the tread is still decent(tread appears to match the hours on the tractor). I've run the tires for almost a year but don't want to...

Hi, new member, looking for advice on possibly buying a new (to me) tractor. It's a 1974 Ford 3600 with 3700 hours on it. Has the 8 speed transmission and power steering. The seller bought it from a guy whose brother died on it in a rollover accident. After the accident, the guy wanted it gone...
Hey guys, I'm new here and I've searched the web over for help but to no avail. Here's my issue - I have a late 70's model Ford 3600 diesel, last winter my antifreeze was a little weak and I had a freeze plug pop on the rear, when I cranked it up this spring I had water pouring out from the...

Hi from essex in the UK. have a 77 ford 3600 with Qcab, its not easy to start and smokes more than it should , its primary use is with a bearcat chipper. My other tractor is a 99 Deutz-Fahr Agrokid 25 with loader, this is little cracker and handles our daily equestrian jobs.

This is my problem...while trying to change out my hydraulic oil in the rear axle..I removed the pan-head screw(part#38308s36-5/16-24x1/8) instead of the square-head level screw located above the pan-head. The pan-head screw will not screw in .....what was it connected to internally? What...
Hey guys, you've helped me before and now I am stuck again.
Bought my used tractor about four months ago and I have been taking it very slow mostly because of bad weather. Doing a lot of maintenance, changing fluids, etc. Mostly have been using the bush mower. I finally put on the 5 ft...
Hi All,
I have a Ford 3600 with no remote hydraulic lines. I am thinking about buying a three point log splitter instead of a gas engine log splitter (one less engine/gummed up carb to maintain). I think I would have to install a single spool hydraulic valve and lines to run the log...
Looking at a 1981 Ford 3600 diesel tractor. 1700 hrs, 40HP, live PTO, pwr steering, 6x2 trans, real clean looking. They are asking $5950. Any opinions on this machine for bush-hogging 3-4 acres? Thanks
Hello all!
Just bought an old Ford tractor. Need help identifying it before I buy an operators manual.
Model#: CA213C
Production Code: 9K19B
Serial#: *C626222
My best guess is its a 1979, 3600. Seems like 6/2 transmission, but I feel like it should be 8/2......
All help is greatly...
Hi All,
I'm replacing my bad original Ford 3600 (gas) radiator with an aftermarket radiator. Is there an attachment point/bracket at the top of the radiator somewhere? There are two large bolts on the bottom radiator frame but there is nothing holding the top of mine. I can move the top of...
Well I have had a leak from my fuel filter since I bought the tractor. Not much, but this week it started a steady drip. I removed the fuel filter and found that whoever had changed it never removed the gasket from the base and had double gasketed it. I removed one of the gaskets and that seemed...
Tractor was left out in the weather for about 4 years with cover over exhaust. This is a diesel tractor and I believe it may be seized up.
I was told by a friend to jack up the rear end, put it in high range and high gear and try to push or move a rear tire. Tractor is loaded up on a tall...
Found a business a few hours up the road that's selling a 1976 Ford 3600 diesel, asking $5,500. Transmission has been flushed, new front tires, new instrument panel, new gas tank, and freshly painted. Fires right up the first time with no smoke at all. Only thing I noticed was a little oil at...
What would cause the hydraulic system on the front end loader to stop working ? Rear hydraulics are working fine. Bucket is locked up and won't go up or down. Fluid is full and hose clamps/lock are closed. System was working fine and just quit. I have a 1981 Ford 3600 with just under 4000...
Anyone have any experience with a loader on a Ford 3600? I'm considering a new installation but don't want to hurt the front end with the additional load, if it is not designed for that. Thanks in advance.
Guys,
Anyone have any experience with a loader on the Ford 3600? I am inheriting one with about 1500 hrs, and would hate to install a loader if the front end won't hold up to the loading.
Hi I have a ford 3600 for the last few years always gave me a bit of trouble with the injector pump, would have to tap it to get tractor started but now it wont start at all after been lying up for six mounts ,I can get fuel to the bleeding screw but not to the injectors, now I have a change to...
Been eyeing this tractor for a couple of weeks now. Dealer about 2 hours from me has it but I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet. I was curious if the price seemed in line for the condition or is it a little high perhaps? I need to find out the hours and whatever else the dealer can...
Today I took the top off the pump and put new o-rings on the throttle and kill switch shaft. It ran perfect before this. After I put it back together I can't get it to start. It is getting fuel to the pump (Bleed the air) (almost new fuel filter), but when I take the injector lines off at the...
My fuel gauge reads empty regardless of the fuel level, and the temp gauge goes up to the edge of red and stops ( no evidence of any overheating).
I would appreciate any help to diagnose whether the problem is both sending units or some other problem.
Thanks,
fordtractorman
An embarrassing question to have to ask but here goes. I bought an older ford diesel 3600. It is probably about a pint or more low on oil. The dip stick and oil filter is on the left side of the motor but I have looked everywhere I know to look and don't know where the oil cap is located to...
I have a Ford 3600 diesel which I have owned for about 2 months. The proofmeter works, has about 1800 hours on it, but who knows if this is correct. Today I noticed what I think is oil which seems to be coming from the exhaust. See pictures.
There are small droplets on the inside of the hood...
I just got a Ford 3600, well I purchased the property and it was left. I need to do some bush hogging, but need to add some hydraulic fluid before I start. I can't get in touch with the former owner to ask, so I have come here.
Can anyone direct me to where to do this? I do not know the exact...
Finally finished my sun canopy. Kinda copied Soundguy's bracket design. Used all "scrounged" material. Top was a piece of metal barn siding. Frame was from steel destined for the dumpster at work. Couldn't find nice pieces of wide 3/8" flat stock for the brackets so I took some curved scrap 4"...
I'm looking at buying this diesel Ford 3600 tractor. Seller says recently he noticed while mowing tall grass with 5 foot brushhog, the PTO was barely turning. This tractor has a live PTO. When letting out clutch, first the PTO turns, then when pedal is further released tractor starts to roll...
Ive found a 1981 3600 ford diesel has the hydraulics on it, good tires, the paint isn't show ready, its faded and needs a can or two of spray paint on it so some spots want rust but I'm going to use it not show it ,so I guess I would say fair to good, Its seems to run good I drove it, I don't...
Hi I am about to buy a 1980 ford 3600 with front loader. 2 owners only, it has 589 hours supposely? How can I make sure that it is correct? (first time tractor buyer)

I'm considering purchasing a late 1970s model Ford 3600 from dealer.
He's asking $5,900 (but "will drop to" $5,500) and it includes a 6' rotary cutter.
I have not gone to see this machine yet.
Any tips on what I should look for to make sure it's not a lemon?
Is this machine rated at approx 35hp...
I am curious. I am selling my Ford 3600 with loader and would like some opinions on how to price it. It is in great condition...has about 2000 hours...Live PTO...Rear Hydrolics...and very nice loader...I have an offer for 7500...does that sound right?
