Ford 4000 dying when warm

Pulling the petcock showed me that it was completely clogged with rust scale (I just installed a new petcock not quite a year ago, so I was SURE that was not the problem!). Anyway - I hosed the gas tank out as well as I could to clear any more loose rust scale out and cleaned out the petcock and everything works great now.

!

Did your petcock not have the screen on top of it? ( they do come off easilly.. )

hopefully your new one did.

It did, but it had fallen off in the tank. I put it back on when I re-installed it, but it's so loose I'm not really confident it will stay there. Any tips for getting it to stay put?

I just heard from the wife (she's out playing with the tractor while I'm stuck behind a desk for the day!) that it's acting up again though - probably has more rust scale clogging things up farther down the line I guess...so much for an easy fix!

Pin it. Micro drill bit and steel wire.. or copper wire.. that way it is solvent proof. OTOH.. a small worm gear hose clamp would probably do the job too..
