Ford 4600 engine temp

I have a infrared thermometer and want to check my Ford 4600 engine temp. What area or areas do I check to get the best reading. Right now the manifold and just above the manifold on the engines reads about 220-240F.

How about the thermostat housing? A freeze plug will read block temp. Are you trying to check your temp gauge?

Yes the gauge reads high so just curious what the actual temp is.

Take a reading on the top tank of the radiator where the hot coolant comes out of the head.

yep. may not be exact. but will be ballpark anyway. especially if used as a comparison test and not a direct absolute read.
