3-Point Hitch Ford 5000 3point system - extendable lower arms (draft arms)

Can anyone point me in the direction of disassembly/repair tips for the extendable lower draft arms on a Ford 3 point system?

There is a ball that can be pulled, to allow you to extend the lower arms to help connect your implement. It seems that the ball is connected to some aircraft cable, which frays over time.
One of them is completely broken off, the other cable is about 1/2 way there as well.

I'm not finding many pictures or even references online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At the rear top of the lift arm, you will find a hole with a roll pin inside (about 1/4). Use a punch to get the roll pin started on its way out, then use a new roll pin to finish driving the old one out. The key is that the new roll pin should be longer - long enough that it sticks out when installed. Now that your new, longer roll pin is installed, simply grip it with pliers and rotate it about 1/4 turn counter clockwise (looking at the outside of the lift arm). This lifts the locking mechanism, which is normally actuated by the broken cable. Now all you have to do is remove a pin (about 5/8 in diameter) and your telescoping lift arm will slide out.

As for where to get a replacement cable, I have no idea. I couldn't find them anywhere, so I ended up replacing the cable with a 1/4 inch bolt with a big washer welded on the top for me to grab a hold of. It took some experimenting to get it to work (I had to bend the bolt just right so it would not bind).

Good luck. These are a pain if you don't know how they go together. It seems that information and parts are quite limited as well.

No idea what those cables are really like but looking at the pictures soundguy posted and the comment by strum, the retaining cable on some hitch pins came to my mind.

We had several Ford 4600's, 5000's and 5610's with those extendable lower lift arms. We found they would occasionally "unlatch" while in use.

I welded them up solid as all our tractors had JD Cat ll Quick Hitches mounted on them anyways.

The roll pin can be seen in the pictures from Big Barn. The bolt near the bottom of the lift is where the other 5/8 pin would be. Take out that bolt (or pin). Then rotate the roll pin and your lift arm end with telescope out.

Here are the detailed pics. Any idea what the pin is on TOP, just behind the quick-release cable? It looks like a taper pin - I didn't get under the tractor to get a look from that angle (yet).
