YEah, it ran like a top! Woulda been a good thing, EXCEPT................

I got greedy for more power. If I'd been happy with 80 or maybe 85, the entire experiment woulda worked. After I messed around with the fuel screw, it was turning out 105 HP. I was dragging a 5-bottom (X16") semi-mounted plow. Something had to give. The rear flange snapped off the crankshaft. Kinda made a mess outta things when that happened.

You don't still have the turbo do ya ? My friend could use an new output elbow between the turbo and the stack. His has a crack in it. Tree limb I think.

Chris, I don't see how your wife found out about the new tractor-unless you told her. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif With 10 tractors and all of the implements that you have. My brother has a 4000 Ford with the automatic transmission, seems like a good/solid machine.

What year is your 5000? Early '70's, but that is just an uneducated guess.

How many hours are on it?

The photo makes it hard to tell, but the sheetmetal looks rather straight without too many dents. What is the plan for the winter project, strictly mechanical repairs or a new coat of Ford blue?

75.. I think the last year made?

Very few.. New dash /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif!! only tach works.. so that is on the to-fix list.

I'd say sheet metal is 95% or better. I have a little welding work to do on the right running board... the air breather hoodcap has a small gash in it.. but not a dent?? looks like a lawnmower hit it while it was laying in the grass and being serviced. Looks like brazing and a grinder will make it 100%.

As far as I can tell those are the major defects in the tin. No rust holes.. no 'extra' holes.. etc.

For now, mechanical repairs. In the event i get the mechanical repairs done.. and it is still 50 degrees or better outside.. I may sand it down and shoot some primer on it.. if the weather still holds.. I'll deffinately paint it... Just don't have any time frame onit.. will be working on it mostly weekends.. and december is fast aproaching. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I am envious. That tractor looks really good despite the faded paint. It appears like you will have an easier time with the winter project. My father has some 2-cyl. Deeres that are in decent shape, but it is amazing how quickly the little tasks add up when you set out to work at them.

I have always liked the Ford 5000. It is a nice, brawny tractor in a small package. It is on my list of "Tractors Most Wanted". Hey, that would be a good post to start in the vintage forum...
