I found a Ford 535 with loader, but no PTO or 3-point for $4800.00. Not sure on the number of hours. Condition is good. Is this a good deal? What should I offer?

Can I add a backhoe w/o a PTO...

yes you can add a backhoe to it but you will need to find the supframe for it but if the tractor runs and drives good it is well worth 4800

I'd think long and hard on that. It's a good tractor, but with no 3pt or pto, you are very limited in ever doing anything else but use the loader. If you get a subframe & backhoe, it will make a good loader/backhoe, but it will never make a good 'tractor' as most of us consider a tractor to be.

All depends what you want of the machine.

Very true Paul It limits what you can do with it. Mine come with the 3point, PTO and sub-frame. I seen one on the web a few years ago that didn't have any of the 3, But the ad said it could be added. I don't know if it can be or not. Call the MF dealer and ask, That is a good talking point for you to get them to lower the price to about $3000. That is about what they go for with out those 3 things.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it

I bought a 535 a few months ago and it works great. It has a loader and a drag. The drag is on a 3 point. There is a plate bolted on where the PTO shaft would be. If I removed this plate is there a adapter that I can get to add a PTO shaft. I've seen different PTO adapters and it looks like some are made to fit into a place that looks about the size of the plate on my tractor.
Can I add a shaft?

is it shuttle shift if so no you can not add a pto

I'm not sure what a shuttle shift is, but I was told it was an automatic! When you have the RPM real low you can pick one of what seems like 4 gears. From what I understand if a tractor is in neutral a PTO is not on? Anyway, what I see where the PTO would be is a plate. I was hoping that I could get an adapter in there that would have a splined shaft out of it for a PTO.
Thanks,

My fingers are crossed that I can get a working PTO on this old but good tractor.

Yes, it has a lever to the left of the steering wheel - push it forward to go forward and back to reverse. Only one lever between legs - goes w;here ever you put the lever above.

I know I'm going to have to order a manual for this tractor, just have not wanted to spend the cash at this time. It is a solid tractor and has done everyth;ing I've asked it to do.
Thanks,

you have the shuttle trans which has a torque converter for running the trans the only way you could add pto is to get a eight speed trans and rear end out of a 4000, 4600, 3910, 2910, 4610 and do away with the shuttle shift trans and rear end

Thanks for the information. I think I will not go any farther with the PTO issue with this tractor. I will use it like it is and go another route per the PTO issue. Could be even another tractor to go with this old work horse.

Thanks for all you information and help
