Got a 545 backhoe that we use quite a bit at the shop -- one of the power steering lines had a worsening leak, so we pulled both this weekend. When I went to order replacements, of course I found there are 2 sets of lines with the cutoff being 1980 -- can anyone help date our tractor? I'd order all 4 lines, but at $80+ each, it's going to kill me to get stuck with 2 wrong ones. Any help is appreciated!

Final assembly date of your tractor was July 28, 1980.
The '6' in your unit code is actually a 'G'.

Thanks for the help! Now to wait until Monday for the lines to come in. Wish I hadn't pulled them in such a hurry!

I am trying to ID my tractor too. Can you help me figure out what I have? The numbers I see are: u2762/d0311f/c620959.

What is wired about this tractor is that it does not have a clutch pedal nor a place to attach it. Most manuals, and posts I was able to get off Internet talk about the clutch pedal, but I do not have one. How am I supposed to drive this thing? I am able to get it to go into a forward gear, and into reverse. It goes OK once engaged, but it is difficult to shift from reverse to neutral to froward and vice-versa. And I don't seem to be able to shift into any other gears. The diagram on the dash shows 4 gears but I seem to be able to go to first and reverse only.

Yours is also a 545, but model code is DD311F. Serial number makes it about 1979 or 80. Date code is not the number you listed. If it is a 1979, the date code will start with a 9, then a letter, then 2 numbers, then probably a B. ie:9C23B
You have a power shuttle or torque converter transmission. There is no clutch. You shift the F-N-R lever to neutral, shift the range lever to 1, 2, 3 or 4th gear, then put in forward or reverse. If it is hard shifting the F-N-R lever, the linkage could be loose or the valve spool (inside the bell housing) is worn out or nedds lubricating. It is possible to lube by removing the hood, fuel tank, bell housing cover, unscrew the valve spool detent and squirt some oil in it. But, it isn't easy. The alternative is splitting the tractor at the bell housing and removing the transmission distributor housing.
The range shifter sounds as though it is stuck as well. You can remove the transmission shift cover and look at the shift gates and gears to get an idea what might be causing the range shifter to be jammed.

i need help as well!!! my model # under the hood is DL253C engine #8F21A # on the side of the block by the starter is D5NN6015G and the # on the axle is C5NN-4012D hope this helps because i cannot find anything on it!!!

Yours is a 531, I think low profile, 1978 year. I will look up tonight for whole description.

DL253C = DL2 is 531 model, design stage 2. 5 is Diesel horizontal exhaust. 3 is Live PTO. C is 8X2 Manual Transmission. Date Code 8F21A = 8 for 1978. F21 = June 21. A = Morning Shift.
It originally shipped as the model code is laid out. Many were LCG or Low Center of Gravity with very low profile tires like 18.4 x 16.1 tires on the rear and the front spindle being almost inline with front axle tube with 8.00 x 10 front tires. It is considered an industrial model, thus explaining the yellow paint on the chassis. The whole tractor was shipped in that color. It is equivalent to a 3 cylinder 4000 ag tractor.
