i have been given the task of getting hydraulics and brakes to work on a ford 6000 i was told the acumulator needed re charged with nitrogen i re charged the acumulator and the hydraulics still dont work as there are very few of these tractors in the uk there is no one over here with practical expirence to ask there advice so can any one tell where i should start looking for the problem

To start off with, do you have the service manual for the machine?

What part does the accumulator play in your system. Might be totally irrelevant, but in other system I know, the accumulator is used to supply hydraulic pressure to the brake system. Is there something in your manual about a shuttle valve that will release the brakes when hydraulic pressure is up for normal operation. Anyway, this valve can be a source of trouble.

An accumulator is just a storage tank for pressurized fluid, and the out flow can be used for many things.

You did not say whether you had a hyd test gage. I suggest all hydraulic run system have one for trouble shooting.

We really need some more particulars to help. Tell us what you know about the hydraulic system, hydrostatic transmission, hyd gear pump, FEL, 3pt,etc

Does the engine run, is any hyd function working?
Have you checked all filters?
Hydraulic fluid level.
How many pumps?

the 6000 hyds are a special bugger.. they used the accumulator so you could manipulate the 3pt lift after shutting the machine down.. it.. to reposition a rear implement.. etc... limited.. but worked..

Worked well at killing and maiming unsuspecting folks, too. It's a closed center system with a fairly small pump and good sized accumulator that suppliments flow as pressures drop to below the accumulator's charge pressure. If the system does not function with a charged accumulator, the pump may be worn beyond the point where it can build pressure to that of the newly charged accumulator. Or there is a high pressure leak in some valve or other component that is allowing all pump flow back to tank instead of building system pressure.

Oh I don't doubt it caused injuries... "live hyds" when the mahcine is off.. just sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

problem solved the shuttle valve in the end of the pump was stuck so the oil was just being returned to the oiltank and not going to the accumulator
