Ford 640 w/12v conversion - Started Then Wouldn't Start - Electrical

That's exactly what I did when converted to 12v with alternator. I sold it to someone needing a 6v genny for his H. I let him have the voltage regulator and warned him it was flakey as you had to reach down while driving if the amp gauge went to discharge and give it a whack.
No way I would go back to 6v and mechanical vreg. I used voltage dropping resistor and kept the 6v coil. It starts better than ever and the lights are brighter.

Thanks so much guys. Sounds like my project for next winter. I inherited the 640 by way of marriage, not running, brought it back to life and found out it is a sweet ride for sure. image-2951290182.jpg

Sound guy, my goal for this summer is correct the paint. My wife had it detailed for her late husband and the guy just did everything as cheap as possible. I didn't discover this until I mated the new tire and rim up to the tractor. The guy didn't use the medium Ford gray which has a green tinge to it. Oh well, things I actually like to do in the nicer weather. We are expecting snow tomorrow, so I will be using the Deere for a few more weeks.

Amen to that. Sweet ride and only 120 hrs. A year older than me and is basically new.

First project is to take the calcium out of the right rear tire before it corrodes the tire and rim like the right side. Coat me more than I wanted to spend, yet glad I did. Found a local rim that had light surface rust from a kid who soups up tractors for racing. Couldn't find a used tire, so bit the bullet. At least I didn't pay for a service call plus retail on everything. That was how I discovered the paint color error.
