What is wrong with the fuel tank?

Dad had an E-150 service van of similar vintage that stopped taking more than a gallon or 2 at a time. Had to replace the tank on that one too due to Ford's absurd design of the roll-over valve. His van sat at the dealer for over a month waiting for parts.

Another one of Ford's 'better ideas'.....

I don't know what the deal is with Ford and oem replacement parts. I recall not being able to buy a replacement factory oil pan for my four year old E250... Had to buy an aftermarket coated pan.

Same thing with some of the suspension parts on our 05 Explorer. They just were not available. Crazy stuff.

When I still worked for the Ford store we frequently had current model vehicles sitting out back for a week or more waiting on parts. This is vehicles under warranty. Hard to keep your customers happy with that going on. I can remember more than once taking parts off of lot vehicles to keep people going, only to let the lot vehicle sit.

Hah! I stand corrected-just happened to be talking to my buddy that had the Tacoma. The truck was 10 years old and had 60,000 + miles. They gave him 12,000!. He took it in for the inspection, they called him up and told him they were not going to release the truck. As it would take up to 3 weeks to get him the check, they sent a guy to pick him up to take him to Budget rentals where he picked up a car at Toyota's expense.

Same thing happened to me. I had a 2000 Tacoma ext cab v6 4x4. Had over 196,000 miles on it. They gave me over $15,800 for it. Said it was 150% of retail. I was happy to get the money, but I do miss that truck. Never had any issues with it and just really liked it.

Me too. Got $12,300 in 2010 for my 1999 Tacoma V6 SR5 with the TRD package with 116,000 on it. The deal was 150% of Kelly Blue Book for a truck in excellent condition, even if it was trashed. They really stepped up on that offer. Gave me a newer Tacoma rental for a few weeks for free. Ironically, while I tried real hard to find a Tundra (wanted to go full size) with what I wanted on it, I ended up getting an F-150. But, I won't forget how they handled it and will probably be back to buy something from Toyota again some day. Really can't see how anyone could turn that into a negative.

My tundra got a new frame, cost me about $800 in replacing parts that I didn't need to replace but just made sense to. Last month my coworkers 99 GMC's rusted frame broke and the truck was sent to the salvage yard. He was not a happy camper when Toyota was replacing frames when all the big three just turned their back. I'll probably keep my Tundra for another 10 years or more. I've never been sent a "free oil change" coupon, nor have I heard of anyone getting one.

Ah -Tasca Ford! Take me back to their drag racing days with their 427 Galaxie- then the 427 Thunderbolts, then the 68 428 Cobra Jet Mustangs!

Thx for the part nos- hopefully we can get Plowboy's bloodpressure down-can't believe parts for an 08 would be NLA.

NLA. They are showing MSRP $941 - My cost $1882 on fordparts.com link to their entire supply chain for some odd reason and it is not order able. 9002 is part number from above. 1FBNE31L88DB45877 vin. I've had two dealerships that I work with attempt to locate. There is not one in inventory in the US.

I have a call in with One Call Fuel Tanks for a salvaged unit with a warranty. It will then be sold or traded along with a handful of others in the company fleet.

The 2009 identically configured as the 2008 that it was parked next to was also stabbed and fuel drained/stolen. That 35 gallon tank is available in very small numbers (only double digits nationwide) but Ford insists that it's not interchangeable.

Is it a metal tank? If it is could a radiator shop fix it?
