hi all, new member here.
i have a ford 7810 and was thinking of fitting a turbo,
whats your views on doing this? my tractor has 9000 hours but running well!
You can fit a turbo to your engine but if the engine was not designed for the higher pressure, temperature, and internl loads caused by turocharging than the durability of the engine will be affected. Piston crown temperature is a critical parameter and this is usually controled by cooling with lube oil. The internal pressures will be higher and so the loads on the piston the rods and the crank go up with increasing cylinder pressures. Material strength goes down with increased temperatures. When the engine is turbo'ed at the factory, all these considerations are cranked into the engine build.
You have an engine with 9000 hrs on it and it doubtedly has a some weak points worn into it all ready. I don't think you have a good candidate for a turbocharger. if you want to do it right you'll have to know what beefed up parts go into a turbo'ed engine and rebuild it including those parts and then add the turbo. Or, you can take the risk and boost the engine as it is. Your $'s your choice. If it were me, I would not do it.
