I just recently purchased an 860 and want to change all of the fluids. I do not know much about tractors, but I have read in several places where folks recommend using the Trans/Hyd fluid for everything except the engine as there may be internal leaks that cause the fluids to combine. I was just wondering if the diff was seperate or could fluids leak in from the transmission and/or hydraulics to it as well. I was thinking of using Trans/Hyd fluid in the transmission and hydraulics and putting gear oil in the diff. Would this been an okay approach, or would I be better off using Trans/Hyd fluid in everything (motor excluded)? Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the link! I was just curious on the thoughts about using options outside of the manufacturer's original recommendations. Thanks again!

you essentially answere your own question.. many times the rear and hyds sumps mix, so people commonly put utf fluid in trans, diffy and hyds.

Thanks! Would it cause any damage if the fluids mix if I wanted to use gear oil in the rear diff? Sorry for the dumb questions!

usually no real issues as the intermix isn't much.

the only time i'd see it as a problem is if you wanted to run straight hyd oil in the hyds and gear oil in the rear, and hyd oil leaked into the gear oil thinning it's addatives and protection out.

since utf oil is fine for the rear end itself. if it mixed with the gear oil it's not a big issue

Thanks! Sounds like mixing might also let me know if there are any leaks between the sumps. Is it easy to spot the UTF in the gear oil or vice-versa? Thanks again!
