So you select neutral or any gear, but it still won't move? Seized brakes come to mind.

make sure you have fluid.

That transmission type keeps the transmission ( a full powershift tranny by the way ) locked down till pressure from the front pump is up.

Now.. if you simply need to move it to another location to help diagnose your fluid / pump issue, look on the side cover on the back.. i can't remember if it is right or left side. there will be a strap that you have to remove a nut so that you can flip that strap / lever over. this is the traction disconnect, and uncouples the pinion from the rear of the transmission so that you can roll the tractor without it's rear tires being locked via the transmission.

Now.. if it won't roll with the traction disconnect thrown, check them brakes.. back them all the way off with the star adjusters if needed.

post back.

well if it wont start, no wonder you can't shift it. That machine must be running to operate the transmission.

That little strap simple levers a sliding coupler. You can remove the inspection cover if needed .

so you are saying if i remove the cover i can physically make it so` it will move.

I'm saying that you can disconnect the pinion from the transmission. That doesn't guarantee you can move her.. She coil have a broke locked up rear end, seized bearings, stuck brakes, etc.

Assuming everything aft of the tranny is good, then yes, uncoupling the tranny from the pinion should let you drag her with rear wheels rolling.

Skip if you can locate a workshop manual for the 871 it would be a good resource prior to working on the SOS transmission.

There are several guys including Soundguy that know their way around these old Fords that can help you troubleshoot.

You need to provide specifics to help these fellas diagnose the no starting issue then you can move on to whether or not the SOS has problems.

If no start... the. Confirm the basics. Fuel, spark, compression.

Let us know.
