I have an unknown 12 volt conversion on my 8N. The guy mounted a push button starter button on the dash to put 12 volts to the solenoid. I want to use the Ford push switch on the transmission for starting. I need a 12 volt solenoid that I can put 12 volts on one of the 2 small terminals and use the Ford push button switch to ground the second terminal to start it. I can't find diagrams on solenoids and no one in parts stores can talk solenoid coil wiring. does anyone know a solenoid that would work this way?

Echlin part number ECH ST71 available at NAPA and probably a lot of other places. It has 4 connectors; 2 are for the battery and starter and the small 2 are for the isolated operating coil. This can be configured in any way you want it.

Tractor Supply carries a Tisco solenoid with a Ford part number (D2AF-11450-AA) that will do the same job. I'm not a big Tisco fan, so for the price difference, I'd go with Echlin. Whatever you get, make sure it's stamped 12V.

Thanks for that information. K0RFI

the original 6v solenoid would work just fine as well.
