You should be able to get a new backplate with bushings for cheap.
Be careful to compare the old with the new though.
The first one I purchaced was a reject. Somehow it made it all the way to my shop.
Make sure all of the machining of the holes and treaded holes are exact with your old part.
Have your ohm meter handy to make sure that you don't have anything accidently grounded after final assembly.
Make sure that the condenser IS DISCONECTED when using the ohm meter.

Hey guys, GOOD NEWS, problem FIXED . First off Shawn & I want to thank everyone for all the ideas. You all are great I love this site. When I got over to Shawns today he already had the distributor out. The previous owner had installed a pertronix electronic conversion so it has no points.The bushings were not pressed in the whole way and the internals had no lubrication. The mechanical advance was rusted and did not work. After dissasembly and a thorough cleaning,pressing the bushings in. Lubrication and reassembly it works great! It starts right up and runs smoother than ever.Up hill downhill sidehill whatever It runs reel smooth now. Again I THANK YOU all for your input.
