Ford diesel quality engines?

I've got an 80's 1310 3 Cyl. I'ts need $ome work but mainly due to the lack of maintenance. It's now in A-1 working order (Knock on wood of course).

Make double and triple sure you don't overheat it. New heads are over $2,000 and rebuilt heads arent' much cheaper. If there are any issues with the cooling system fix them! Mine works like a dog and asks for more. Starts every time and doesn't eat much diesel.

I've had steering problems. It doesn't have power steering which is almost a must with front end Loader. Does yours have a FEL?

Those Ford diesels are good engines,work it hard,but dont overload the engine,lugging,and constant black smoke are signs its past its power range,and your wasting diesel and ,making heat,and shortening engine life it you sustain that load.....
