Ford Edge or what's better?

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. She is really like the look of the Edge from the ones she sees around town. Like most, I hate dealing with salesman at the dealerships, but it's getting closer to that time. Hopefully we'll know just what we want and it wont drag on too long.

Do what I did. I looked around Ford dealer lots on Sunday's when I wouldn't be bothered. Then looked ok the dealer websites of the trucks I was interested in, emailed them my offer (trade, tax, rebates, etc included) and made it clear that my price I was offering was my out the door price. Had one email me back and said he'd take it if I came to buy that day. I went in, talked to the sales manager I emailed with, signed some papers, met with the finance guy and said no to all his offerings and was out the door in 35 mins.

We have owned an Edge, Explorer (older model), Escape, F-150, Expedition, Jeep Cherokee, Chevy S-10 and Chevy K-5 going back a few years.
We have never owned a real car. Just SUV's (before the name existed) and trucks.

I guess it depends a bit on how much cargo room you need first of all. For me, I like to sit up above traffic a bit. The Escape and Edge sat too
low for my tastes. Great gas mileage, nice ride. The Edge was better equipped than the Escape. The Escape (again older model, just after they
came out), had quite a bit of wind noise. Probably better now. The F-150 and Expedition have been very good vehicles for us. Not the best gas
mileage (about 15 to 17 mpg) but solid, a good ride and little wind noise. We really like the older Explorers. Have not even driven one of the
new ones, again, they sit much lower than the older model.

We owned 2 different Jeep Cherokees. A very basic vehicle and I would never buy one again. Transmission problems, very poor ride and quite
a bit of wind noise. Very good for off-road, but if she is doing mostly paved roads, I would not put Jeep on my list.

Some relatives have Toyotas. They love them and they hold a good resale value, but as you say, they are pricey. A friend has a Chevy Trailblazer
and has had several transmission problems. She is the only one I know with a Trailblazer, so one review probably not the best to go from.

Just be sure you have enough cargo room. Some of the SUV vehicles rear seats do not fold flat. So be sure to check that out if it is a priority.
Good luck.

Edit - You may also want to look at mini-vans. Not sure how many are out there anymore, but they do have a lot of cargo room, good mileage
and a pretty good ride. I had to drive several family members across the country and they rented it as long as I drove. They were pretty nice
vehicles.

If you look at the Chevy/GMC offerings, you might look at the Lambada platform (GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse) for a 7-8 passenger crossover SUV or Theta platform for a 5 passenger crossover SUV (Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain).

Eddie, my fil is on his second Edge. He leased a 2013 and I drove it as much as him due to he's 90yr old and whenever we went anywhere I drove. He and I loved it and when the lease was up last fall with only 8k miles, we had him purchase it and then my mom bought it for the residual which was 24,250. She loving it now.

He then leased a new 2015 Edge with most of the bells and whistles but due to him having a stroke in Dec. my wife has used the car for all her parents doctors appts and for their shopping. She loves it including the keyless entry and push button start. Her only complaint would be the touchy brakes and although I agree they're sensitive, I could get used to them.
I drive a 3.5 EB F-150 and think that Ford makes an awesome line if vehicles.

IMO, the Edge is the right beefy size and 6cyl engine and we would buy this one after the lease is up but we tow our CRV behind our RV and the Edge is a bit too heavy for towing.

Good luck.

We just traded our 2007 Edge for a 2016 that had only 2K miles on it. They have really made some improvements since 2007. Road noise is almost non-existent. We were looking at new ones as they had no 2015 or 16 models on the lot. One of the other salesman told our salesman heh, what about that 2016 trade-in we got yesterday? My wife feel in love. It was the color she wanted and had all the bells and whistles we would not have paid for on a new one. It was the Titanium package, top of the line. Got it for $15K less than its new sticker price was.

Our 2007 was in the beginning of the all wheel drive models and Ford had a lot of transmission/transfer case problems to where even used transmissions are in short supply. They should have all that worked out by now. Other than that we loved the 2007 hence looking for a new one.

If you like all the fancy electronics and deluxe trim get the Titanium package, a lot of it is standard on that series. Your wife will love the rear deck opening by wagging your foot under the bumper. Cameras rear and front and sensors all around.

LOL, Ron

You are right about the road noise on newer vehicles. Ford (and probably others) and really taking noise, vibration and harshness to another level.

My wife and I were looking for vehicles last year, I like the ford flex but my wife couldn't get past the looks. We ended up with a 2016 subaru outback. It's an inch taller than a CRV but not quite as big as an edge.

:laughing:I once looked at a Flex and the interior space, all the specs, bells & whistles, etc. just seemed great, but the exterior appearance is just not very appealing to many people, including me.

My daughter has a 2013 Edge, she loves it, i drove it for a week while she was out of town & waiting on truck part's.
I've been toying with buying a newer F150, after driving her Edge, i've been looking at them & thinking about keeping my 95 F150 for the truck stuff & Edge for daily driver.

We thought about getting a van. They are very popular with those at the dog shows with a lot of dogs. They take out the seats and stack kennels in there. But when looking at prices, they are more then the SUV's.

90 percent of the time, she will just be using it as her daily driver to work and shopping. The big bonus is that after work, she will be able to run to the feed store and pick up what she wants. Currently she borrows my Dad's Explorer, which means she has to come home, get the Explorer, then head back to town to buy what she needs.
