Ford F-150 any good?

I've always had good service from my Silverado's and my dad owned 3 Chevy trucks and put over 200,000 on every one of them. He had the most trouble out of his '85 with the 305 engine but it still made it over 200,000. His 2000 silverado was the best by far.

From what I'm reading, the V-6 is a miser, but only rated to tow about 6,000lbs. The thirsty 6.2L was dropped, so that leaves the 5.0L, which still isn't great on gas, or the Ecoboost. Im considering such a truck myself.

I would have to say that I honestly never had any problem with any of the 11 or 12 F150s I owned over the years. But I generally traded 'em every couple of years and didn't rack up tons of miles on them.

i would expect that if you buy a truck only a year or two old with 20-40K and only keep it 4ish year and another 80Kish that you shouldn't have any issues. not everyone buys vehicles that new or that low mileage.

as for 1/2s i have never owned one ford or otherwise

My friend has an ecoboost and I have an F-250 with the 6.7L diesel. I have way more power and also get noticeably better mileage, especially when towing. On the other hand his was a lot cheaper up front and is cheaper for every type of service, runs quieter and smoother, and has a nicer interior trim package. His has great power, but he gets it by putting the RPM's way higher than I have ever felt comfortable doing. Both would blow the socks off of my last truck, a 2004 Silverado with the 5.4L Vortec gas. Really no comparison at all.

I tow a lot. 37 foot gooseneck 4 horse trailer with a large, well stocked tack room. If you aren't towing large loads or very often though, the Ecoboost is the way to go in my opinion.

I bought a 2014 F150 Supercab w/ 5.0 in July. I have been very happy with it so far. Performance is great. I get about 18-19 MPG in combined driving. I previously had a 2007 Tundra.

I would recommend buying an extended warranty if possible if you plan on keeping whatever you buy. The f150's have been pretty decent trucks but when your out of warranty some stuff that breaks can be expensive.

The drywall guy who did our house replaced his old F-150 after 500,000 miles with a new 2014 with the 5.0 V8. He is real happy with it, and gets 20-21 mpg. That seems pretty darn good to me. From what I have seen, all the modern V8 trucks do very good on gas.

One of my coworkers bought an F-150 with Ecoboost and it's a nice truck, but he had engine troubles the first week he owned it -- basically crapped out while driving in a rainstorm on the highway. The dealer reset the computer and made another tweak, and it's been fine since. But apparently it's a known intercooler condensation issue that has dogged quite a few trucks.

For anyone in the market, I would give the all-new 2015 F-150 a serious look. It has some major advantages over the current generation, as well as the competition. They shaved something like 750# of weight with aluminum, and that is a huge reduction.

If your drywaller got 500,000 miles on an F150, it must have had a 4.9L/300ci.
