Ford F150-I'm Done.

I have no beef with Nissan or Toyota. Nor do I think they're American. I don't think GM or Dodge are any more American than Toyota or Nissan either. But the fact is, the F150 is the most American of the bunch. Need data to back it up?

No Surprise Here: These Are the Most "American-Made" Vehicles -- The Motley Fool

F150 is the only truck to make it into this list of 13 "most American" vehicles for 2016.

You don't need to be an American company to hire some Americans to do work ya need done. But 'the most American vehicles' do keep 'the most American workers' doing a larger variety of jobs.

Buying from those who are sourcing their parts from other places are sending your money to those other places and supporting those other communities.

Personally, the news articles about the Dodge assembly workers getting drunk and stoned on their lunch breaks has stuck in my mind and I'd not own a Dodge. They make heck of a tough driveline, but beyond that not much else has ever impressed me.

After watching the GM CEO bragging to China about shifting lots of their parts manufacturing to China back in like 2009 or some such, and claiming they would be shipping whole cars from China for global sales within ten years (which has since came true), it seems they're becoming a Chinese company and have been steering clear of their products for several years.

Regardless, if not the F150, I would buy a Toyota before a Dodge or GM truck... Not because of any of what I said above either, source doesn't really sway my decision much, it's just food for thought. I bought an F150 because I like it best out of all of them.
What's sickening to me is that our government bailed out GM then they turn around and turn themselves into a Chinese company sending jobs and money to them sneaky b*****ds. How much money did Ford receive for bailouts? I'm not a Ford bandwagon fan but the more I think about it........

Bill Ford brought in the turnaround expert from Boeing, Alan Mulally, and in 2005 Ford began selling the family jewels to get slimmer while streamlining the existing model lineup with fewer models. Beginning in 2008, every new Ford was engineered to run 150,000 miles--at least that was the intention. By the auto-bailouts of late 2008 Ford didn't need any bailouts event thought their corporate bonds were trading at 60% discount to the coupon and their common stock traded to a low of $1.00. How Alan Mullally turned Ford around is now taught as a case study of exactly how to turn around a large, failing company at Harvard Business School.

To answer your question: Ford did not receive any bailouts, but did participate in a $9B program to build more fuel efficient cars. Oddly enough the ecoboost family is something that came out of that as is the increased use of aluminum, a process Ford had become very familiar with when it owned Jaguar and Range Rover.

5. Ford — $2.52 Billion
It doesn’t get much more ‘American’ than the Ford Motor Company, which itself has allocated $2.52 billion in government funding as of late. Spread across 193 separate appropriations, the subsidies have been able to help Ford recover from the financial crisis and adapt to a world that looks more and more like it have less cars on the road in coming years. Ford has been able to avoid, by and large, some of the other issues other American manufactures have had to deal with, but it still faces an uncertain future.

Ford has seen revenues surge as new technology, features, and models have been added to its lineup. It’s still the maker of the best selling car in America, the F-150, and its Fusion sedan has been winning over many in the sedan segment. However, for a company that is pulling in $7.2 billion in profits, as reported by The Guardian, it does bring up questions as to why the company is getting so much from the taxpayers when it is more than profitable.

Thanks, that is some good information. From the sounds of things Ford has made smart business moves in keeping up with the times.

Just read this. I did not know that. Interesting for sure makes you wonder. Still at the end of the day Ford represents the most American automobile manufacturer.

Aside from local tax incentives, our current administration pushed $9B into our domestic auto industry in order to make products more fuel efficient. Ford was best positioned to take advantage of those monies since, at the time, it was redesigned its entire model line and developing new manufacturing processes and drivetrains.

The F150 had the highest American parts assembly in the USA back in 2014. The Most All-American Car Makers? Toyota and Honda - Corporate Intelligence - WSJ

Now the highest domestic parts assembly is the Toyota Camry. The 216 Cars.com American-Made Index

Trouble is that the parts on many of these products are manufactured elsewhere while domestic workers are simple parts assemblers.

I've a friend who wanted to bring foundry work he has been doing back from Taiwan to Minnesota and the regulations made it so cost prohibitive that it just didn't make any sense for him to do so. Too bad as it would have created some good jobs in our little community.

Another downfall of the industry is the fact folk still think parts assemblers can be a future career. Assembling parts into sandwiches is what kids do at McDonalds. There is no skilled labor involved in assembly line work. Engineers engineer the work out of the jobs so it's as near impossible to mess up as possible.
