In your case the independent mechanic that installed your alternator cam probably get it warrantied from where he bought it, as well as file a labor claim so it can be no charge to you to replace it.

So, The manager/owner called me and was very polite. He got the required info from the ind.mechanic. He was still on the fence by saying it "may" be replaced. I said no it will be replaced... He called back later in the day to say it could be picked up anytime. I called my local shop here and they sent a courier to pick it up. Dealer also said they had many in stock...??? May be an issue with them?

The mechanic from Cape Breton called as well just to say everything should be fine and apologized for the paper work. He said if in the end, like dusty3030 says, if the dealer on this end didn't come through he would ship a new one down to us and we could send the old one back. The Cape Breton mechanic probably spent about 2-3 hours on this and will not see a serious return on his time. But he will be getting a letter of thanks from me with a giftcard$$$ for the local coffee shop inclosed!!!

My wife uses this vehicle to commute with and drive our children around. It has to be safe
and in good working order.

Yeah, I bet Ford wishes they had never decided to build their own diesel engine as a replacement for the 7.3 International motor. The bad rep and loss of customer base had to hurt. ...

I wish they had never stopped with the 7.3

it's one of my fav's

I have never owned a perfect or trouble-free auto or truck. This includes most major brands sold here. The Toyota I am drivng now has exceeded all my expections , except with the MPG not being what I wanted? I personally don't need alot of power or 4WD, so I do like Overdrives. As to Buying another Toyota, that really depends on what is available at the time? It might be something more Sporty, as I am getting older..How many Have a CADDY in their driveway now?

For some reason, this never struck me as the "Caddy crowd". More of a p/u kind of bunch. Maybe Silverado or XLT Lariat, but not Caddy, lol.

I've found from past experience when you tell some somebody what they are going to do and they aren't your child or they don't work for you, well, good luck charlie.

Perhaps I might of missed it, but if the the vehicle was still under warranty, why didn't you take the vehicle back to a ford dealership? I could be wrong, but isn't the "authorized" factory dealer the only one allowed to perform the work unless you have something from the manufacturer stating otherwise?

My argument was that is was a Ford product going on a Ford vehicle. It shouldn't matter if Ford did the actual repair...

What does it say IN WRITING on the warranty card that you received when you bought the vehicle?

Sigarms,

Car is out of warranty. But the new alternator is warrantied for 12 months. The independent mechanics, both local and the one I used in Cape Breton felt it should be replaced under warranty regardless if it was installed by Ford. It's a Ford product going on a Ford vehicle. The dealership(Cape Breton) that it was purchased from OK'ed the return and felt it was easier to have a new unit issued from my local dealer. My local dealer dropped the ball.

I have spent over the last 6 years probably $75+K for two new vehicles plus repairs on my F150 and an older 2000 Focus. This is a small town dealership.

This should have been seamless but it wasn't. Had I not used a little pressure this would have gone no where and I would have been out the cost of $500+ dollars for the previous repair plus a new repair for $500 plus. So in 10 months... $1000 for two alternators just doesn't seem right.

If the product was bought from NAPA or another 3rd party I would do the same or at least my mechanic would. As an example when they replace the unit tomorrow they will be installing a new battery to replace the 3 year old one. They also will be getting warranty for the 3 year old battery - some % discount on the new one. They offered this to me - that's why I like using them. They are more forward thinking than the dealership. They go out of their way to satisfy the customer.
