Ford Ranger is Officially Back

The 2nd gen Colorado costs much more than the 1st gen and the new Ranger is going to cost much more than the old one. I want a small truck with a decent sized box, not a suv with a cute little box. At least the old Ranger you could get the 7 foot long box, bench seat, and stick shift.

I want a truck of any size that doesn't have leather, power windows or anything else fancy. I'll be danged if I'm going to spend 20 plus thousand dollars for a new "work" vehicle that I'm going to beat the crap out of over the years only to have a bunch of luxury items that jacks the cost up that I don't need.

Can't anyone make a 4x4 truck new for 15k or less that doesn't have a bunch of crap on it that's not actually needed?:D

Less than $15k? That's less than some UTVs these days.

I hate all the electronic crap. It’s bound to fail and in likely less time than the rest of the truck. I tell my dad he can hate on my 1992 dump truck all wants after his 2015 truck makes it 26 years. I feel it’s pretty safe bet that it won’t because it’ll be plagued with electrical problems.

Not enough buyers for a smaller truck that didn't look much different from the full size truck and cost almost as much.

You hit the nail squarely on the head, and I might add, didn't get much better gas mileage than a full size truck.

In 1985 I bought my first new vehicle...a 1985 Ranger S with the 2.0l engine and 5 speed manual transmission, 2WD for the price of $5795.00 with 8.8% APR financing. In 1998 I sold it and bought a used 1995 Dodge Ram pickup with the 5.2l V-8. At the time of the sale the Ranger got 17 mpg and the Ram got 15 mpg. Why should I drive a half size mini truck when I can drive a full size truck with precious little tradeoff in mileage and the full size had a much roomier cab?

Disclaimer: I loved my Ranger pickup and if it were not for the reasons mentioned above plus the "almost full sized" price tag, I would drive another one.

Well, my house and 10 acres was $235k back in 2013 and was built in 1970. You must have bought yours in 1970. However, to keep on topic. My 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab SLT Premium stickered for $56k. I paid $38k for it after all incentives and rebates. So, you gotta pick your deals. I owned one Ranger, I would have quit making them too. Mine was a tin can and kinda junky and I bought it brand new for work. The thing about these small or mid sized trucks is they price them too close to a Full Size truck so why would you buy one? Plus, it's a FORD

I had my 1600 sq ft house built in 1993 for 63k. That didn't include the property I purchased in 1979 and had paid off.

I bought my 2003 F150 used for 15k. It's dang near as solid as the day I bought it.

FYI, at least Ford didn't beg for a bail out deal on the backs of the tax payers while screwing over their shareholders.

I guess I'm not too bad at picking my deals.

Agreed. That said, I normally only buy used as I see a vehicle as only a means to get to point B from point A. Lucky for myself, my wife feels the same way. Buy a 35k truck after all the gimmicks back to lower the price "down", and you'll still loose 10% of it's value driving it off the sales lot IMO unless you want to trade it in. "Value" only goes down from there.

4750MAN, couldn't agree with you more. The only thing I'm not happy about with my 98 T-100 is the fact that it's a 6 cylinder, no real power to haul anything big, added the fuel mileage sucks for the size of truck it is. That said, 200k and it's still going pretty strong other than the clutch that was recently changed out on it.

I've got 360k on my other Toyota, and the boys still have a while to go before they get their drivers license, but they're hoping both vehicles die before they inherit them

On a sidenote and off topic, just find it funny when I drive by the high school and kids are driving 20-40k sell price vehicles in our rural county. My boys laugh at the Subaru commercials because they know there is no way they'll be driving a new car.

I agree. They make & sell plenty of econo cars @ around $18k new, and I don't see how a bed, and a "body on frame" construction would cost any more to build than a carpeted rear seat & doors that's on the econo car. I understand that a lot of those cars are only available (built) to boost the "CAFE" numbers so they can build more $70k pimpmobile pickups, but why not build a bare bones econo 2 wd P/U with a 4wd option?

And THAT'S what I'd be looking for if I were buying new!

I really don't care if my pick up truck rides in "style" LOL

I mean, who want's to drag muddy clothes in a leather interior truck after you're sweating your gonads off?

Carpet floors in pickups is incredibly stupid. The vinyl floors in base model trucks make way more sense. I guess someone figured out they couldn’t charge you somewhere around $500 for vinyl mats that don’t even fit right and charge more for carpet floors if they just came with vinyl.

I had that opinion for years until I actually got a carpeted truck. (part of a conv. "group") It seemed to clean up better from normal mud & coffee. I imagine not so much with grease & oils but that's not a concern for my use. Of course vinyl or carpet, the floors got a set of vinyl "liners"
