ford rear axle code chart?

i'm going to look at a 4x4 99 F350 later today.. anyone got an axle code chart i can print so i know what rear end ratio is?

IE.. my 04 F250 is a 'C1' whish is limited slip 3.73.. etc...

i'm emailing to get the axle code off the door jamb.. thouhg could ask for the vin too.. I know i have seen an axle code chart somewhere.. not sure about checking via vin though.

Engine combination and rated GCVWR will give you the standard ratio, by this towing chart. Unfortunately it only goes back to 2002, but it should be the same.

well that narrows it down to 3.73 or 4.10

Simply put if it has a letter first it will be limited slip. I would walk right then and there if it does not have a LS.

Some 99s had the 4.30s, I think mostly duallys and V-10s. Be careful with the limitslip axle. I found out on the ice when my 01 went sideways down a icy hill. I still miss it

It may be too late by now, but there should be a tag on the rear axle housing with the gear ratio stamped on it.

looks like 4.10 and 3.73 are the 2 popular ones for a 99-2003 7.3 psd with an auto trans.

9 times out of 10 it will be a 3.73 if its a F-350 SRW or a F-250. About the only time you see 4.10 gears is in a F-350 Dually. This is not a rule by any means but its how you see it 90% of the time. Again, if you have a letter infront of the number on the axle code its almost certain to be Limited Slip such a s C3, ect.

yep.. the one I looked at was f2 limited slip, 4.10 and was a dually.

it didn't work out.. had too much rust.. was a northern truck.

almost went to look at one todday.. but turned out to be a 2003 6.0psd.. not a 7.3

darn... had low milage and looked decent in pics too..
