I special ordered my 1988 Ranger with everything on it I wanted and I still drive it most the time. It has 268,000.0 miles but I did get the engine rebuilt once. The transmission too. And the starter, water pump, etc. Come to think of it, I believe I had about everything rebuilt so it's like I had 2 Rangers, but that's still 134,000 miles each and still going and going and.....................

The Ranger is probably Ford's best vehicle.

Based on # of units sold, the F150 would lay claim to that. Of course the F150 has outsold everything else for beau-coup years also....

My 85 2wd Ranger had the 2.8L V6 and other than having to adj the valves when they got noisey, it gave me great service for over 100k miles.
Traded for an F150.

My 84 F140 XL 4wd was probably my favorite. 2bbl 302 auto w/an AM/FM, PS and a long bench seat that could fit 4 adults :D It was a tank. Unfortunately it drank the gas like a tank too.... The twin tanks held 10 gals each and I'd avg about 100 miles per tank. The thing loved mud, snow, woods or anywhere there wasn't a paved road. Sold it for more than I paid for it.
Traded for a more fuel efficient Ranger.

My 88 4wd Ranger had the 3.0 V6 and was a much better engine all around than the 2.8. No valves to adj, no choke to adj and the fuel injection was trouble free. There was many times I hauled alot more than it was rated for and it just kept on trunk'n. :D It too lasted me over 100k. Traded because I needed a bigger pickup again.

My 98 F150 is a more refined truck. It is the 50th yr anniversary edition.
The push button 4wd is great and teh captain seats are vey comfortable, and it even hauls like a truck. I chose it over the Chevy because they were still sporting the old box style, I chose it over the Dodge because I had neard of horror stories about the front ends wearing out and costing big $$$'s to fix and I chose it over the Toyota because I just fit better in the Ford. COurse a friend of mine bought the Tundra w/the Lexus V8 and always wanted to race 'em, the squirrel :D
8 yrs and 117K miles later I'm still very happy with my Ford product.

I've decided that my next truck puchase will have a diesel. I'm in no hurry but it seems that the compacts may be getting diesels and that would be good.

That's possible, although sometimes we get surprised. In December '92 I was looking for somthing to tow behind a motorhome while we were still full time RVers. I thought I wanted a Saturn (only car at that time that approved towing an automatic transmission by just putting it in neutral) but I wanted a little station wagon and (1) the Saturn seat was just plain uncomfortable, and (2) the dealer said he'd have to order one and didn't know how long it would take to get it. I certainly did not think I'd like a Ford Escort but I liked the appearance OK and decided to try driving one with a manual transmission. My wife and I really liked it. So six years later, with 121k on the odometer (had been towed 15k miles and driven 106k), and after we had quite RVing, it still looked, felt, and drove like new when my wife rolled and totalled it.:( So I bought a new '99 Escort sedan (automatic since it wasn't going to be towed). It only had 40k on it when my wife talked me into buying the Windstar, but it had never been back to the dealer from the time I bought it.

The first car my wife and I traded for after we got married was a 1976 Ford Pinto. Fortunately we never got rear ended, but that was a throw away car. Later got a Ford Escort and it gave good service. I owned a 1968 Ford Torino with a 289 when I was in high school and through college. I loved that car. Then of course later on the Taurus, and now the '94 F250 diesel pickup 4x4.

The worst car I even owned was a Honda Civic. But that was in the 70s. Rebuilt the engine twice within 10,000 miles and finally sold it for $900. I don't think it had over 100K miles on it.

The best service in terms of longevity was a Toyota Corolla I drove 240K miles. Replaced the radiator and both CV joints during that time.

The best vehicle I have ever owned is the one my wife currently drives - a 2001 GMC Yukon XL. It has 110K miles, has never been in the shop, rides and drives like a dream and its paid for.
