Yes and No

The choper went down 10 miles south of Happy Camp,CA, on the Titus fire it crashed in the Klamath River, I live South East/South of Happy Camp. The fire We have is the Uncles Complex, now at 13,000 acres and a few miles up the river. Happy Camp shares the wilderness border with us (Forks of Salmon). Very sad.......... our hearts go out to the pilots famalies.

the first one is a picture of the choper that went down. This picture is one i took last week on the Orleans Complex. Man.... we are surrounded with fires this year

the next one's are from today ......at one of our properties. Helibase, loading and landing for hours, recon, crew and supply drops. not very smokey compared to last week, the freshest air we have had in weeks!

I did not even know there were any fires. Our local paper isn't mentioning them nor have I seen much about it on national TV of which I see very little.

Now thats scary.

Odd as well...its big buisness as well a big news in all the papers up here.....although i don't get any papers I read them at the Fire Camp every few days when i go for a status report

so far the state total is around 36million dollars, at around 206,000 acres burned. The national average is around 1,400,000 acres burned.

California has round 11 large incidents/complexes.....complexes have several large fires burning within and can be miles and miles apart.

You can find Fire info for every state at www.inciweb.org. Or go down to your local FIRE.........

Don't get burned...

Hope that they keep making progress on all the fires out your way. We have been lucky so far this year, we only have two small lightning fires near our place and they seem to be getting a handle on them rather quickly. They have stopped dipping water out of the lake below the house with helicopters but there is still a lot of fire truck activity in and out. A lot of the smoke from your way has been drifting here(25 mi west of Redding) It is not as bad as a few days ago. I hope that means things are better there. Thanks for the pictures. The hills in your area are similar to here. It really makes it tough on the firefighters. Lots of fuel and steep, rugged hills. I think it takes a special breed to fight these fires and probably to live in these hills too! Good luck to you!

the wife told me it went down at Independence creek. i took that to mean it was in the creek.{what a flat lander} Be safe and get those fires put out, and the roads open. almost time for Bigfoot days!!

...saw this from my backyard today in so cal. The fire was only a few hundred yards away. Never seen anything so close... Thank god it was burning away from the house towards the mountain. We pack everything and ready to evacuate. Luckily, they were able to put out the fire.

Stumpfield

When its that close i suggest Smores over straight marshmellows.

Pack and run..We have a prioritized list of things to grab easy, and expensive to last to go unfortunately My L48 and implements are last along with some other goodies. We have a couple trucks and 3 trailers. Things we are unable to grab we will put in the middle of the meadow with sprinklers on.

Our entire property is fire safe! No fuel ladders no dead trees no combustables(sticks, leaves, bushes) around the house for a hundred feet. further in areas, even the forest behind and around sheds are cleaned. We are slowly going further and further into the forest with this. My inlaws property/house burned twice 77,1987 so we know first hand the importance of being "Fire Safe". If your home is not Fire Safe than the fire crew will not protect it. It puts them in an unsafe situation.if your home is Fire Safe they will make fire lines around your property and home.....even wrap your house! Very scary Stumpfield. That must have been something running around like a chicken with its head cut off packing stuff......I know the feeling.

The wreck happened where independence bridge and the independence creek cross and flow into the Klamath River not to far off..... for a "Flat Lander",,,,.........

enjoy our smokey air while you can Shasta Winds are "supposed" to shift here soon, I think were getting hit with the Orleans smoke the Shasta/trinity smoke the bar complex as well as our uncle smoke! Im going to the Coast for some air on sunday!!

The Northwest is also having its share of fire to the point that extra manpower has been requested from other areas. Too many of them are human caused. Now while I can understand the sickness that leads some people to deliberately start a fire, I do not understand stupidity.

We just had a small fire (480 acres) just N of Spokane Wa. Many outbuildings burned, 4 homes (positive) total burn out but there may have been more (reports ranged up to 12). Cause? Some brainless idiot lit off a trash fire. This in spite of a 'red flag' warning, country dry as a bone (no rain to speak of since June) and an announced total ban on _any_ outdoor fires. Of course that guys house survived. I hope that after all the lawsuits are over he loses every penny he has plus any he will ever make.

I understand that fire (Valley, Wa) was caused by a young lady who probably doesn't have a penny. A friend of mine lives in Chewela and he had his horse trailer over there to move some animals until they got control of it.

We had a series of 15 fires, that merged in to 9, with a couple houses lost. This was a couple weeks ago.

Some lady was drunk, and hit a motorcyclist. Guy on the bike died. The lady never stopped; when she hit the motorcycle, it blew a tire on the car. She kept driving, with a shower of sparks coming from the blown tire/bare rim. After a number of miles, she stopped, ran from the car, and hid from the K9 unit, up in some brush... While she was driving, the shower of sparks started all the fires.
