Forgetting to lift 3PH

I'm no expert but on my tractor at least, the hydraulic pump doesn't operate unless the engine is running so I wouldn't think it would hurt the starting system any. I don't think that simply lifting an average 3pt implement would put a whole lot of stress on the engine either. I do it fairly often with mine, don't see a problem with it.

Like some of the others, for safety sake I lower everything when I shut off the tractor. And I leave the 3pt lever down as I don't want it to jump up as soon as I start the tractor.
But I don't see any harm to the tractor in doing as you say. The hydraulic pump starts building up to design pressure as soon as the tractor starts. The fact that the 3pt lever is up doesn't force it to make more pressure. It just redistributes the flow.

Thanks for the answers. Lifting upon starting takes less than 5 seconds. Probably around 2-3 seconds. It is a load on engine, but not much, and short.

I far from being a mechanic, and just wondered if I was overlooking the oblivious. Sorry, I am often oblivious, and sometime miss the obvious

My 3ph equipment stays up and does not drop even after not using the tractor for weeks. Guess the oil does not bleed back in to the holding tank or it has a check valve. I watch it when I start up and it does not move at all. My FEL on the other hand bleeds back after a while and will lower gradually after non use.

For safety sake I do like to lower the FEL and any implement before leaving the tractor. But I still raise the 3 point lever after the engine has been shut down and before leaving the seat. This prevents my forgetting to raise the implement before moving the tractor the next time its started and I really don't think that any harm would ever be done to the hydraulics in doing so.

I always lower the loader and the three point. For safety and also to take the pressure off of the valves. The added hours that the lift has a heavy implement on and raised when the tractor is not running is just extra hours that are wasted using the seals and other components that aren't needed.

I always keep the 3PH raised, if there is no implement rigged up...just a habit now.

Of course, all tractors require a modicum of operator awareness.

I used to have a "modicum", but finally went to the Doctor, and got rid of it.

Sorry Roy. My mind works in mysterious ways...

Jerry is absolutly right. If you have on an impliment say like a disc or bush hog you should set it down when you stop your tractor to take the weight off the seals if anything.

If you don't have anything on your 3PH, leave it up.

I always lower both the FEL and 3 ph when something is on it when shutting down. Twice, I've drug the brush hog over the dual door sill. I've taken to draping my ear plug line that joins them over the steering wheel and then over the jack shaft control.
